Watchtower building in Brooklyn Heights for sale

A giant waterfront building owned by the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Brooklyn Heights could soon go on the block – with an early estimated price tag of $120 million.

The potential sale of the nearly 1 million-square-foot building at 360 Furman St., a structure that many expect would be converted to luxury lofts, has local Realtors abuzz.

Some 400 to 500 condominium apartments could have views of Brooklyn, Manhattan, New York Harbor and the East River.

“The potential gross sellout price as condos could be half a billion dollars,” said one appraiser, who asked that his name not be used.

“Some of the top apartments will have 180-degree views, from the East River to the Verrazano Narrows [Bridge],” he said. “Those could sell for $4 million to $5 million.”

Melinda Magnett, president of the Brooklyn Corcoran Group, said a low asking price of $50 million would set off a bidding war.

” Waterfront properties are in demand,” she said, adding that a $50 million tag is “hypothetical – they might end up selling the building for a lot more.”

Realtors said that between DUMBO and Red Hook, there is nothing else quite like the structure, which eventually will be surrounded by the planned 67-acre Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Realtors compared the potential condo conversion of 360 Furman St. to the successful 126-unit conversion done at the Clock Tower at 1 Main St.

Apartments in the DUMBO building are now selling for between $500 and $625 a square foot and have appreciated as much as 40% from the original 1998 sale prices, said Domenick Neglia of Neglia Appraisals Inc. in Dyker Heights.

Witnesses shift

Built in 1928, the 12-story warehouse at 360 Furman St. sits between Atlantic Ave. and Joralemon St. The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, also known as Jehovah’s Witnesses, purchased it 20 years ago.

The society used the building as its principal shipping facility for Bibles and publications – and has for years been plagued by community complaints of truck pollution and noise.

Last fall, the Jehovah’s Witnesses decided to shift the shipping facility to their Wallkill, N.Y., center and other facilities around the world, said Daniel Rice, a spokesman for the group.

Of selling 360 Furman St., Rice said, “We don’t need it any more.”

While the group – one of Brooklyn Heights’ largest property owners – posted a press release on its Web site announcing the potential sale, the building is not formally on the market.

After I posted my messages here ,I proceeded to call N.Y.C. to The Watchtower on Monday,A woman answered the phone, but did tell me that she was not permitted to disclose her name to me and re-routed me to an also nameless man, whom did represent the organization. He spoke kindly and told me that the notes that are taken when a witness or pioneer comes to our doors ,remain in their Bibles for future references, such as a scripture perhaps, that may be shared on the next visit,we conversed abit and he assured me that the information doesn’t go beyond the person knocking at our doors, It
may be shared if the witness comes with another person or a group, but only for future visits to take up where left off.I would like to let my deep concerns end here.I will not disclose my name, nor anything, anymore with them.I will remain a good neighbor, but will not welcome anyone from the Watchtower, ever again.

Being a friend to many Jehova Witnesses thruought my neighborhood, actually I believe they share in the development of this community from its grassroots,I never smirched upon any Jehova Witness for my 24+years here as a resident, and friend to all,I recently have found that The Kingdom Hall has their followers and members taking notes and having acesss to medical records that are suppose to be protected by Hippa Law here in Florida. My question? Why are the Witness permitted to conceal the facts that they can knock on any door because of its Religious Roots and write a report on non Baptized people without us/them being told, or a proper statement in the literature and witnesses to let the people know that their privacy rights are being infringed upon?I have recently found this to be the real truth, and The Witnesses proclaim THE TRUTH,but do this to innocent and clueless people. It is actually identity theft and infrigement upon our Constitutional,Federal, and Local Rights.I feel that this must be revealed,as you witnesses preach on the revealing of the truth. So my statement here,I want full disclosure to all of your illicit and secret practices handed out to everyone you approach, telling them that you are taking notes to send into The Kingdom Halls all over the world. Now,this is free advise,FREE,imagine that, and of course I demand that you all from this secrey society based church CEASE&DESSIST,Gather all the notes on me,return them to me,and stay away from me,my family, property, and medical records,Now!And do not threaten ,nor harm myself ,my family or anyone.Stop now,

I feel that my privacy is invaded as I have lived 24+ yrs.amongst a neighborhood thriving with Jehova Witnesses, next door, behind me,etc, and being a neighbor and friend to many in our community I have always welcomed and friended some of my neighbors, little did I know that I was being written up monthly and being filed as a non practicing Jehova Witness for all these years.I researched the foundation of this church as I see the formation of this church and our local community being restructured in a very similar way.Donations, secret this and that,so I went abit further and found that these neighbors and thought to be friends, must write a written report on anyone that is a non believer.I was never told this, nor was I given any paperwork to permit this misuse of my personal life and home.I feel that this is criminal, and that the Wittnesses are dangerous people, using their religion to override separation of state and religion. They gain access to personal information and medical records because of the refusal of blood transfusions.Being raised in a strict Irsh Family I was told as a young girl ,to watch out for the fox in sheeps clothing.Well now 60 years old, that fox came out of the woods,I demand that all Jehova Witnesses CEASE&DESSIST all activity pertaining to myself, family, property and medical records. This is wrong and rules must be placed as our country is in danger as it is,these people can do things that others are jailed for.Someone has to help people like myself and make rules for these people to abide by.They knock on doors weekly and bring in millions doing so,people are clueless to this secret society,Internationally they bring in billions, and we are told they give everything from the watchtower free.Folks,be aware, the fox in sheeps clothing is at your doorsteps,I will no longer associate with anyone from this secret society, this is wrong. My name is Monica and I will stand up for myself and let others know what this organization is doing,If anyone from the jehova kingdom halls is reading this, beware, and stay away,I consider you all trespassing and thiefs,my identity is not for you to share with anyone. We wonder why so many become victims of identity fraud, well folks, they get the goods, but only if you let them, please beware, and they also have a network owned by kingdom hall for Bible Study, they can listen over voip computer systems and write you up without you even letting them in.I pray the authorities break this criminal ring up,time will tell!Just because we are to love our neighbors,I was victimized and fooled, and it broke my heart as I thought we were sisters from the same neighborhood, and loved them,no I have never been converted from my Cradle Catholic upbringining, and loved my neighbors as I respected the fact that they weren’t trying to convert me-(it will never happen)-lol,no,they are writing me up!

It’s not selling if it is free. Jehovah’s witnesses don’t charge for any of their literature.

First of all, Jesus was called all sorts of names, and he was persecuted till death, yet he never did any wrong to anyone except preach the Good News about God’s kingdom which he said was why he had been sent forth in Luke 4:43. He left an encouraging message to all his TRUE disciples in Matthew 10:24-26 not to fear the persecutors because if he was called Beelzebub, it could only be worse for his TRUE followers so the insults and slander will not stop Jehovah’s Witnesses and just like their first century brothers and sisters who were not overthrown despite severe persecution but kept on growing, the same is happening with them because their work is not from men but from their God Jehovah (Acts 5:33-39).

One other thing I forgot to mention, the world has been full of imperfect people since the sinning of Adam and Eve and God has since then instituted a way to redeem mankind from their sins through his son Christ Jesus as a ransom and also to teach about how people should live their lives. By doing this, he set his righteous standards for us to follow and also for his people to stand out even as a witness to the world as being different. God DID NOT say that “HIS WORD” makes us perfect humans and will take away sins…that will only come about in the paradise. That is why we have to keep striving to do right in our own lives and share the “GOOD NEWS” with others so that they can try to do the same. Iron sharpens iron, and we all fall at times but still accept our reproving with a humble heart because we as sinners not one of us can redeem the other…this world does not have the solutions to the problems it faces, that’s evident…the governments are clueless but JEHOVAH’S WORD DOES NOT RETURN TO HIM WITHOUT SUCCESS!!
There are no perfect Jehovah’s Witnesses, even if there are those who profess to be a “GOOD CHRISTIAN” and are still doing wrong, Jehovah sees all, man cannot. This organization of imperfect pe

It is very unfortunate that you all feel that way. It is however quite the opposite. Throughout the history of the bible, God has always had chosen ones to either mediate or direct his people and the same stands for today, for Jehovah does not change…the same thread of Jehovah’s arrangement still exists. Always, time after time there are those who stray away and even those Jehovah himself anointed to be kings made mistakes and turned their hearts away from him…and as always it is that person’s decision to do so if they choose because he created us with free will as those of you who formally may have at one time associated know. Jehovah has always used imperfect men to take the lead the only perfect man was the Christ. Jehovah has set high standards for his people because he knows it is possible for us to attain to it, not because he expects us to do it perfectly…that would be unloving.
The truth is the truth and there is not another loving brotherhood that exists in today’s world like that of Jehovah’s people. Jehovah is the ONE and only TRUE GOD and he will be vindicated!

The Jehovah’s Witnesses are people who remind me so much of those who worshiped and served Hitler. They, just like Hitler and hos supporters believe that they are a special chosen race, they believe in a 1,000 year kingdom as Hitler also did and they have a very small “specal group’ of men who claim they are the governing body whom god is using to bring condenation to the world before it ends,,,,whe ever that will be..This pompous small gropu of men control millions in their organization who teach and basically focus on the most idiotic things imaginable to the human mind( like : are the smurfs(cartoon) demonic in nature…da!. Too bad that these few millions who compose their sect are so far away from reality that they just don’t see the reality of the world and life. They are taught to be very proud and pompus people, for theuy believe that they are the only people that god looks with favor and will save…the rest of us billion people can goto hell because we are going to be destroyed along with the world we love….

For what, though, was Jesus primarily known? He was addressed, not as Healer, not as Feeder of Thousands, and not even as Resurrector of the Dead—although he did fill all those remarkable roles. But people called him Teacher, and rightly so. (John 1:38; 13:13) Jesus explained that a major reason he came to the earth was to teach people about the Kingdom of God.—Luke 4:43.
That is why Christ’s genuine followers devote themselves to the same work that occupied their Master when he walked the earth—teaching people the good news about God’s Kingdom. Jesus Christ commissioned all true Christians to teach people worldwide about that subject. (Matthew 24:14; 28:19, 20) That incorruptible heavenly government will rule over all of God’s creation, according to the law of love. It will accomplish God’s will, even eliminating suffering and death. (Matthew 6:9, 10; Revelation 21:3, 4) No wonder the Bible refers to Christ’s message as “good news”!—Luke 8:1.

I meant NYC not NTC. / I now have a far more normal and active spiritual life experiencing the fruit of the spirit that was lost when I followed blindly the ever-changing teachings of the 12 to 16 men who JW’s follow as sheep to slaughter; true wolves in sheep’s clothing the Governing body is. The truth has set me free. DWPollick

Imperfect men called The Governing Body destroyed my relationship with jehovah. For that reason I left the JW man-made organization after many years and a two year stint as a Bethelite in NYC. JW’s like to highlight how members of other religons follow man such as priests, pastors, rabbis, etc. What is ironic is that the JW’s themselves are in a spiritual bondage following man. If they disagree with the teaching of the men called the Governing Body, they can suffer all sorts of social and mental punishment. The MEN who rule the roost from NTC ruin and destroy the lives of millions of people and feel no guilt due to their arrogance of spirit just like the Pharisees mentioned in the Bible. DWP

Ah, I miss the Christ-like compassion of the typical JW. God must be real proud of you.
You bet as well? That must be new light from the Watchtower they are now allowing you to bet?
God will also destroy false prophets. Let me see, the Watchtower and their chronic propensity for predictions and prophecies, yet not one came true. Just what will happen to them?
Perhaps you forgot, hypocrites, false prophets, haughty & self-assuming pseudo Christians won’t survive either. Here is some useful friendly advice; maybe next time you want to post one of your intelligent comments, you could try thinking it through first.

    Thank you.

Don’t you just love the JW clan when they come and post the same idiot comment that they all use as their argument for justifying their ridiculous doctrine.
Please use your brain and try to see beyond the one-dimensional world the Watchtower created for you.
I personally couldn’t care less whether they or anyone else is with or without imperfections.
Let’s stick to facts, try discussing & proving the doctrines of your faith. Bet you can’t do that.
