End of the World Near? Watchtower Builds Luxury Properties
(I-Newswire) – For over 125 years the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society has been proclaiming the end of the world is nigh. It is to be replaced with a New Order where only those espousing their beliefs will live.
Yet the Watchtower Society continued to build in Brooklyn, expanding their smaller headquarters to contain several large properties in the exclusive Brooklyn Heights section next to the Brooklyn Bridge. In spite of several failed prophecies for the end of the world, the last disappointment being the year 1975, the Watchtower is a multi-billion dollar landowner all over the world. Income from their New York City corporation ( one of many they own ) is one of the top 40 in New York City, with just under $1 billion per year.
Not content with owning large blocks of properties and a 30-story residential building in Brooklyn, the Watchtower Society is planning to build a large 20+ story complex in DUMBO ( Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass ), a trendy neighborhood that is not happy with their plans.
A watchdog organization called 85 Jay Street.org was formed to oppose this major influx of non-taxpaying residents, who want the project scaled down and altered to at least reflect part of the local community instead of having another huge religious dormitory like the large factory and residential buildings already dominating Brooklyn Heights.
Why So Much Construction When the End is Near?
Currently Jehovah’s Witnesses are attending summer conventions all over the world, and part of the scripted assembly program is focused on this “time of the end” we are living in. One play drama focuses on not worrying so much about getting a higher education because the “end is near.”
Why are so many buildings being erected when the numbers are down and Witnesses are apathetic about pressure to do more?
It could be an advance move to make sure their are enough funds to cover the ongoing litigation over child abuse scandals now mounting.
The large payouts the Catholic Church has made in the last few years over pedophile priests and those who cover them up has Watchtower attorneys worried for similar reasons. This is largely due to a “biblical dictate” that says in order to take action against any allegations of sexual misconduct or pedophilia there must be “two witnesses” to the alleged crime. Since that is rarely the case in the real world with pedophiles, large numbers of them have been left unpunished and go unreported, even though the elders and the leaders of the Watchtower Society often have knowledge of such allegations, and in fact have covered over many confessions of sex abusers – not wanting adverse publicity on their organization. This “ecclesiastical privilege” means that the Witness coming to your door to talk about the Bible may in fact be a known pedophile among his elders but has never been prosecuted by the sect OR the law, and they are out there talking to your children.
The law firm of Love and Norris is currently seeking prosecution for several such cases among the Witnesses, hoping to build a class-action suit that will force the Watchtower to change its policies ( they are still holding to the “two witnesses” rule ). The Watchtower Society is building all of their new properties to be easily converted into luxury apartments should the need arise. They already have several large properties up for sale in this multimillion dollar neighborhood. Buy low and sell high! But if the end is near, Why?
it’s not the local kingdam hall books, that are intertesting to see, it’s those books from the “High Tower Society” in New York, as some informed people know, these are very wealthy JW’s, who do the cheap property buying, using all the free labor from the brothers, like plumbing, electric aso. and then after they remodel those building turning around and selling those buildings for a very nice profit, all from the free labor of the “loving brothers” who are imagening they did it for Jehovah. – Open your eyes -

I was reading your comment and I want to reply to this, I know your comment has been made last year, I just am reading some of those comments now, but I do want to tell you it is not only the money I spend beeing in this kind of organization, I prob. would have spend the same kind of money in any other church, but it is also the money I lost, because of the teachings of this oragnization,as I am a business owner, and as I have turned down lucrative business offers, because of some fals teachings, that is what I am takling about, yes I lost money all around for 20 years, who is going to pay me back?
All I can say, my own ignorance about what the real truth is, about this organization has caused me thousands, if not tens of thousand, while the elite group in New York plays with millions of dollars. That is what I am saying.
What really gets me, that those high Tower society people in New York, playing with their millions, the little folks in the local congegrations have to sratch their pennies to support the preaching work. I know of several cases, where old little widows have to scratch pennies to pay for somebody to pick them up to go to the Kingdom Hall, or to invite the visiting speaker for sunday lunch. Or if you are having your own little business, somebody always want some money, because the mind set is, to concentrate on the preaching, not on a better education or a better job, so more and more people become poorer and poorer, and trying to leach of those who make a little bit more, since you supposed to help your “brother”. And often you may have people talking about you, that you are not spirituell or to “materialistic” whatever that suppoes to mean, while up in New York high and mighty, they can live in “shameless luxury”, while the local slave do all the work for free. It’s the same principle like it was with the catholic church in the middle ages, if you can keep the people poor and ignorant or uneducated, you can have power over them, people who have money and education, don’t fall that easy for some kind of brain washing lies. That is logically. That is exactly what keeps people down and dependent on organizations such as this one and others.

The WTS has millions if not Billions of dollars in its bank account. There property overlooking Manhattan on the river is worth billions. They make millions every year on ‘contributions’ its JW are the number one buyers of all publications so imagine each book each magazine they put out one buys with for whatever they print themselves and all money is for them. They supply District overseers with money, shelter, car, and health insurance. They only ‘help’ or donate to JW. They talk about helping others but the help in within. Fear, Fear is what is conditioned…not to God but to the organization. They actually fear the society more than God. I am not discouraging to believe in them but as time goes by one wakes up and questions…Although you can only question in your mind because question to someone and your betraying the ‘organization’. I believe the watchtower society is building more and more, because as they believe that God is going to destroy the wicked. They believe as many of us do that ” He that does the will of God remains forever.’ Also because they believe Isaiah and other prophets when they say ” that the mountain of the house of jehovah shall rise up over all mountains and to it peoples will stream’ is in relation to them, as having a teaching work at the end of days . I believe they are partially right, because we are told we are the house of that one ‘ “provided” we are not removed from the good- news.’ And that good news is the one Jesus and the Apostles preached, for we are told ‘there is no other good news’ But watchtower told a lie when it told people the good news was changed in 1914, and said it was time for people to change their hope from heavenly to earthly and so started to disobey jesus command on bread and wine; We are under command to enter for the race of life , and to try and make it for the first ressurection, but no one knows they have made it until the race is finished. If someone tells you not to enter a race because the winners have all ran and won their prize, who is the fool for believing it?
Hmmmm?!? To sell or not to sell what will it be? Personally, I have no problem with a legal sale and/or buying of properties within the definition as provided by “Ceasear”. However, personally speaking, I would prefer all the buildings of the Watchtower to be sold in the New York State and relocated closer to the Canadian Us Border. I would, personally speaking, prefer for the Watchtower to scale down rather than to build up a larger body of workers. My mind is thinking more along the lines of computers that can print out literature on a smaller scale. Wouldn’t it be wonderful for each circuit to print out their own magazines and books? Why would this be beneficial? Cost-wise there would be less mouths to feed, one would not need to grow vegetables on a whole scale level, and YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN WOULD BE AT HOME WHERE THERE PARENTS COULD KEEP A CLOSE VIGILIANT ON THEIR COMINGS AND GOINGS just like parents should be doing.

They are like babies that I don’t want to give up…that is the problem with hoarding. Last year, I threw out about a thousand of such magazines. Now that is Not cost efficent. Just give me a computer book maker for me to press at a button and I would be the happiest person in the world. We wouldn’t need factories at all except for the inner core decision makers who might just need only one very small building. Personally speaking, GET OUT OF NEW YORK, sell high, go with smaller book machines for all the circuits. Do we really need artists at the Watchtower? How many pictures do we need? I got on this website looking for a JWH in Rome Italy, As I have been studying the bible, I will be going to Rome, And wanted to contact JW for information and safe place to stay, The one thing that I have found out that I never knew before studying was that Satan is rules over the earth, And I could never understand why some people hate JW. The Kingdom Hall is the home of Transportation Logistics Engineers (truck drivers), Visual Inspection Repair Professionals (window cleaners) & of course Sanitation Engineers (cleaners).

On second thought, that is not what the pictures in the watchtower magazines usually show when it comes to Armageddon. It clearly shows complete destruction, the watchtower goes as far as mentioning the scripture in Ezekiel where it states that every wall will fall.

I would like to comment regarding the reply from “Contributor” when he said something to the effect that the WTS doesn’t have shareholders. If you go to Dunn & Bradstreet’s official website you can do a search for Watchtower Bible & Tract Society and find numerous entries for their organization as being a publically held company. Now, that seems interesting to me when you consider that if they are in fact a publically traded company would that not follow that at some point “worldly” people could become investors, or shareholders in the company and have a say in how the business is run? And I wonder how many of the “rank and file” are aware of such information? For that matter, how many of the elders? It’s a sure bet they aren’t encrouaged to find out more info about it which also seems strange. If they were a publically traded company would it not seem logical that they would want their members to invest in the future of their business? Something to think about.
Let us settle this finance issue once and for all.
Yes WT needs money to operate, and from what has been said on this site it receives a large amount of money.
If you are able to give, you do! I am fortunate that I am now able to contribute generously. But that has not always been the case.
I can tell you sincerely that wether you give a little, a lot, or nothing at all you are treated no differently. And the best thing is no one knows what you give.
Money may well have to be invested and put aside for the purpose of settling recent litigation, but this is what any prudent and responsible organisation would do when facing such a prospect. If watchtower did not have such contingency plans then they would be criticised for not being more far sighted.
And as far as spending money is concerned, if WT had taken the argument 50 years ago that “the end is nigh don’t build”, we would still be meeting in school halls and rented rooms. Which would no doubt cause all of the watchtower critics to suggest that Jehovah was not blessing us.
I would also like to state that WT submits all of its financial affairs to the relevant governmental authorities and regulatory bodies.
Charitable organisations are the most regulated, and therefore all activity is carefully monitored.
They have no legal or moral obligation to reveal all of their holdings or activities to the public in general.
Watchtower does not have shareholders nor does it have paid directors, therefore it does not matter if the organisation does grosses over $1billion a year. No one is getting rich, and the money is used for the purposes for which the organisation existed, namely worldwide bible education
It brings to my mind the example of King Solomon one of the richest men ever to live. He built a magnificent temple to Jehovah and lavished it with Gold and precious materials. Why should Solomon’s temple and the beautiful sites built by watchtower be judged any differently? Do you think God has lowered his standards? Or perhaps you would criticise Solomon in the same way that you criticise Gods modern day representatives for giving their god the best they can afford.
I do wonder if someone, somewhere after reading this will go rushing off to locate Solomon’s last Tax return! I can almost see the article heading now “The End is Nigh so why did Solomon build a Multi Billion Dollar Real Estate Fortune”!
I am so sorry that some of you have not had the happy experiences of being a witness that I have. However I imagine that if you look beyond the hurt feelings you will know deep down that it is your fellow man that has failed you and not Jehovah God and not his Earthly organisation.

Neither Mike nor any manmade organization today is in a postion to judge others. All judging will take place during the 1,000 year judgement day by Christ, head & body.

You’ve got to be a LOT younger than me. I was not allowed (by my theocratic parents) to get a high school graduation ring “because the end is so near” and it will be useless. (I graduated Class of 1960!)
I was not permitted to make use of an all-but $125 scholarship to college, because “Armageddon is coming soon and you need to be pioneering”. I did pioneer ‘where the need was great’ for years.
I needed medical care, and found that insurance was not available with part-time work. So gave up pioneering, took a job–and plenty of criticsm from the congregation. I was a good worker, but watchted people I trained get promoted over me, and be paid more I got because they had degrees.
I finally did go to college (thanks to the state’s Workman’s Compensation laws). However, even under those circumstances, in those days it was ‘evidence’ of being ’spiritually weak’ and I was treated as a ‘bad association’ by the brothers. Not one of the friends came to my graduation ceremony.
Because of all the years I worked part-time and in low-paying positions because “the end is near” I get by on $617 per month (TRY THAT!) from Social Security.
As you know, Witnesses have no provisions for housing, food and health care with which to assist their elderly members even though those people dedicated their lives in full time service for many years. In my case, and the case of so many others, it is the US Government and the charity of Christians (other than Jehovah’s Witnesses) that provide food and shelter for the elderly of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
I hope you will consider what other’s have experienced with the Watchtower’s on-again-off-again (admit it!) policies on higher education. At the very least, it would be wise to look into the possiblity of you one day being in the same situation so many of the aged faithful find themselves. (At the very least you may want to contact Social Security to ascertain what your monthly income will be when you are too old to work.)
first of all, apologise my bad spelling (swedish). now,the issue. many, probably the most JW are counting the hours, others do “estimate” their hours+, other dont really care and write as many hours it takes++ too, not have elders running around, keep their status in their convergation. i guess that those JWs that think this side is ok dont care so much about the origin of the hours.
I am not sure why you would say Jehovah’s Witnesses put no emphasis on education. That is not true of the families I know. Actually most witness children get a better education from preschool through HS. We feel education is very important. Yes we do not push 4 year college because of the time and what Jehovah and Jesus feel is important. I also find it hard to believe that your grandson is full of hate. I am sure he loves Jehovah and has love for all and would like you to look into the Bible and learn what Jehovah and Jesus want s us to do. Ginger
Ginger, if you got most of your literature nearly free and all the literature is free of charge as you guys claim. Where than does the society get the money to supply all the literature to people. Please let us not forget that they make over a billion dollars a year just on the printing business. Where is the money coming from???
Could it be some other shady business we don’t know about???

I know I have probably gotten most of my literature for nearly free because I donot have alot of money . These people on here are just bitter and apparently have nothing better to do with their time. JW’s are the only church group to have provided their time, labor & efforts for free. The WTS may well have more people doing than any other religion, however that only strengths the case supporting the cult idealogy. Every cult demands a lot of it’s members, after all that’s how they keep them in line.
Excellent comment ‘Nolongerduped’, I couldn’t agree more. I was involved for approx. 18 years, essentially raised in this faith, only to finally rid myself of it’s control. I have read works by Franz, Penton & others, which were very good & revealing.

i was raised a jw and after struggling for about 15 years to free myself from it, i finally did, and i have never been happier. my father is an elder, and he will no longer discuss ‘the truth’ with me since he knows that at every turn i prove it wrong.
the wts is a business, it exists to control people’s lives and wallets, just like every other organized religion out there.
they are NO different from anyone else, trust me, i know that from first hand experience.
anyone with a conscience needs to openmindedly examine their faith, and if you are a jw, read crisis of conscience by ray franz, who was at the top of the ranks at bethel. he does not bash the jw’s at all, but exposes what really goes on at headquarters (he was there, saw it firsthand, and you know who he is if you are a jw), and how the rules and regulations that govern the laypeople of the jw’s are arrived at…scary to think that a few old men have so much control over the life and death of so many people….shame on them, and i’m glad i’m not in their shoes, for god i’m sure will have no mercy whatsoever on the likes of them.
Hey guys please remember that everytime a JW posts a comment they are counting that as time on the time sheets they have to fill in every month, that’s right they are probably pioneering or something and need those extra hours.
It’s funny as shit. They get in loads of trouble if anyone finds out they are on this site but they get on so they can ethically count time for “preaching”. Funny as shit.
