Is Michael Jackson re-embracing the values of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, even though he’s publicly separated himself from the denomination in the past?
As I reported over the weekend, Michael Jackson decamped from Neverland for a few days while he awaited the jury’s decision.
Jackson and his inner circle checked into the posh Santa Ynez Inn on Friday.
Jackson is also said to have made an appearance on Sunday with his mother, Katherine Jackson, at her local church.
This would indicate that, at least for the moment, the singer is re-embracing the values of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, even though he’s publicly separated himself from the denomination in the past.
But what Jackson mostly did over the weekend was to hide from taking responsibility for the dismissal of his publicist, Raymone K. Bain.
Over the weekend, Jackson was happy to let his younger brother Randy Jackson take the flak for putting Bain’s firing on his own Web site.

(in their 1915 edition of this same book they changed “AD1914” to “AD1915”)
On July 15, 1894, they say “We see no reason for changing the figures—nor could we change them if we would. They are, we believe, God’s dates not ours. But bear in mind that the end of 1914 is not the date for the beginning, but for the end of the time of trouble” (p.1677 of reprints, see note 72)
In 1904 they said, “The stress of the great time of trouble will be on us soon, somewhere between 1910 and 1912 culminating with the end of the ‘times of the Gentiles,’76
On may 1, 1914, they said, “There is absolutely no ground for bible students to question that the consummation of this gospel age is now even at the door….The great crisis… that will consume the ecclesiastical heavens and the social earth, is very near” 77
But the year 1914 ended without a single one of these predictions coming true. 78
In pastor Russell’s sermons (1917,p.676) Charles Taze Russell, founder and first president of the jw’s, said of world war I, “The present great war in Europe is the beginning of the Armageddon of the Scriptures.” After Russell’s death, Judge Rutherford continued the tradition of false prophecies given in the name and authority of God. He believed and stated that 1925 would mark the year of Christ’s Kingdom. He was wrong. 79 — In the WT magazine, September 1, 1922, we find, “The date 1925 is even more distinctively indicated by the scriptures because it is fixed by the law of God to Israel…[One can see how] even before 1925 the great crisis will be reached and probably passé” (p.262)
The WT magazine of April 1, 1923, stated, “Our thought is that 1925 is definitely settled by the scriptures” (p.106). But these and all other predictions proved false.
After utterly falling in the 1914 and 1925 predictions and finding that many people were leaving the Society, the leaders of the WT became more cautious in setting dates. Nevertheless, they continued to hold out the promise of the eminency of Armageddon and the subsequent millennial kingdom. From 1930 to 1939 there were numerous declarations made about the future. For example:
In 1930 they said, “The great climax is at hand” 80
In 1931 they said, “Armageddon is at hand….”81
In 1933 they said, “The incontrovertible proof that the time for delivery is at hand.” 82
In 1933 they said, “That [Jehovah] has now opened these prophecies to the understanding of His anointed is evidence that the time of the battle is near; hence the prophecy is of profound interest to the anointed” 83
In 1939 they said, “The battle of the great day of God Almighty is very near.” 84
In fact from May 1940 to April 15, 1943, just three short years, the society made at least 44 predictions of the imminence of Armageddon. 85 Here are a few example from tis period and later:
In September 1940 they said, “The kingdom is here, the king is enthroned. Armageddon is just ahead…The great climax has been reached” (the messenger, September 1940 p.6)
In the WT, September 15, 1941, they said, “THE FINAL END IS VERY NEAR” (p.276). “The remaining months before Armageddon…) (p.288)
On January 15, 1942, they said, “The time is at hand for jesus Christ to take possession of all things” (p.28)
On may 1, 1942, they said, “Now, with Armageddon immediately before us…(p.139)
On may 1, 1943, they said, “The final end of all things….is at hand” (p.139)
On September 1, 1944, they said, “Armageddon is near at hand” (p.264)
In 1946, “The disaster of Armageddon …is at the door.” 86
In 1950 they said, The March is now on! To the field of Armageddon ofr the ‘war of the great day of God the Almighty’” 87
In 1953 they said, “Armageddon is so near at hand it will strike the generation now living.” 88
In 1955 they said, “It is becoming clear that the war of Armageddon is near its breaking out point.” 89
In 1958 they said, “When will Armageddon be fought?…. It will be very soon.” 90
These are just a few of the many false prophecies the WT has made over the years. Is there any wonder the jw’s leaders in their Awake! Magazine, October 8, 1968, p. 23, were forced to admit that “certain person” had previously falsely predicted the end of the world? IN this article jw’s leaders asked why these false prophecies were given. Every jw should take note of what they say. They said it was because they lacked God’s guidance.
In this article in Awake! magazine (October 8, 1968, p.23) the WT leadership admitted:
True, there have been those in times past who predicted an “end to the world” even announcing a specific date. The “end” did not come. They were guilty of false prophesying. Why? What was missing?…Missing from such people were God’s truths and the evidence that He was guiding and using them. But what about today? Today we have the evidence required, all of it, and it is overwhelming!
Notice that the WT leaders have condemned their predecessors their predecessors as false prophets. They admit that all through the years they were speaking in the name and authority of god, they were really lying and giving false prophecies.
If we accept that they gave false prophecies, god in Deut 18:20-22 says in the new world translation: However, the prophet who presumes to speak in my name a word that I have not commanded him to speak or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die. And in case you should syay in your heart: “how shall we know the word that Jehovah has not spoken?” When the prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah and the word does not occur or come true, that is the word that Jehovah did not speak. With presumptuousness the prophet spoke it. You must not get frightened at him.
But in spite of their tragic record of predictions that did not come to pass. They disregarded the word of god in Deut 18, and as the above quote from Awake! Magazine shows, thy confidently asked the people to believe that now they would speak for God ion predicting the future. They now began to strongly imply it would be the year 1975 in which Armageddon would occur 91
In 1973 they said, “the ‘great tribulation’ is very near” 92
In 1973 they said, “according to the bible’s time-table, the beginning of the seventh millennium of mankind’s existence on earth in near at hand, within this generation” 93
In the kingdom ministry, May 1974, the world’s end was said to be “so very near” that Jehovah’s witnesses were commended who sold “their homes and property” to devote themselves to fulltime service in “the short time remaining before the wicked world’s end” (p.3)
In 1975 they say, “the fulfillment…is immediately ahead of us” 94
In 1975 they say, “very short must be the time that remains…” 95
Many jw’s living today can remember when the year 1975 came and went, bringing great discouragement to the faithful and providing further embarrassment to the WT society.
But the charade still continued. From 1976-1981 the society repeatedly said Armageddon was “very near” “at hand” and so on. And from 1981 to the present the society still claims that the world is near its end.
It is said that the jw’s believed that the WT authoritative statements are true and genuinely reflect god’s guidance. But if the society has been indisputably wrong in every period it has prophesied, how can modern jw’s trust it?????? Would any employer rehire a thief for the tenth time after nine offenses??? The answer is no! Thousands of jw’s have left the WT after having lived through the high expectations and heartbreaking disappointments of these false prophesies.
Thousands more have left who investigated these false prophesies in the WT literature.
Still, the WT society claims that jw’s “unswerving action to such inspired prophecy has held them true th the right course till now.” 96 After reading its false prophesies through the years and its own admission that it lied, what do you think?
The society still claims of Armageddon, “Jehovah has his own fixed date for its arrival” 97. But the WT has missed that date every time it has predicted it.
I kept telling my 5 year old son that if he doesn’t behave and do good in school “Santa clause) will not bring him any more gifts, well it worked for a while, but unfortunately is no longer working?

Any and all religions can be desconstructed and a web of lies will be revealed. Singling out the JWs is a dense and simplitic approach. Raised as a JW I’ve been out 25-30 years. Still I find all religious discussion and research interesting. Ergo, I find myself on these so-called apostate sites from time time. These sites can be quite interesting but unfortunately I find many of them are rooted by one person’s intense anger they can’t grapple with in a more productive way. Many seem rooted in deeply dark stuff. I “get” the intense anger over lost childhood, embarrasing door-to-door rituals designed to get a good report card, being weird as hell, etc. I even “get” that stories of the origins of JW faith can be less than pretty & pure but that church isn’t alone in that one! But hell I’m well into my 40s at this point — I have long ago accepted my childhood for what it was. Odd, somewhat interesting and most assuredly quirky … but mean & evil? Nah.
About the money – I have no idea where the Wathtower funds go but I imagine they are about as wealthy as any church. The Catholic Church’s wealth is obscene – visit Rome if you haven’t. Likewise, visit Brooklyn if you haven’t. JWs own some of THE hottest real estate in the WORLD. They’ve got a stretch along the East River with mind-boggling views of Manhattan. It’s unbelievable but no more so than the Catholic Church or likely any other church. There’s big money in religion but to make it seem like JWs are alone there is ludicrous.

The abuser, elders in the congregation, circuit overseers and the ones running the WT should be the ones paying for it. You seem to believe that witnesses tell others about Gods’ wonderful purposes for the earth. Telling people, join us or you goats will die at Armageddon is not very good news, is it? At least not for me.
You claim that as a whole they do very good work, what good work is this may I ask? They don’t have programs to feed the poor, to help the ones in need and so on, like salvation army, meals on wheels, big brother, red cross and so on……………… I don’t know of any activities besides going from door to door recruiting people and selling magazines.
On one thing you are very right, they don’t pass the collection plate, however they conveniently have 3 or 4 boxes at the entrance of the kingdom hall to collect the money which makes them 3 or 4 times worst, please do open your eyes and see. So sad to see thousands of people donating their free time while mother-ship is raking billions of dollars a year in profits.
You mentioned global warming, which is a serious problem. What have the witnesses done about it? Have they stopped using cars so there are less gas emissions destroying our precious atmosphere, hell why not follow Jesus example, he rode an ASS. Has the society spent money creating a lab to discover other ways to remedy the situation? Have they been proactive by petition the government to do something about it? Or are they just sitting around for the end to come, if Joe-hover prophesied it must take place right???

I will say this. I was raised as a Jehovahs Witness, even pioneered, and altho not practicing currently, i would NEVER say the kinds of things you are saying about the beleifs. I too was abused as a child physically, and you would think that the elders seeing black eyes at almost every meeting would give them a clue, but the never beleived my mom, or me, nope they beleived my step father. dont you think i’m bitter about this? But i do NOT by any means blame Jehovah for this, nor would i bash his name publically on the internet. There is faults with ever religion, as there is some with Jehovahs witnesses too, thats cause we are all IMPERFECT. Do you honestly think that EVERY one belonging to the christian congregation will make it in the end? NO! But thats for Jehovah and Jesus to judge at armageddon, not us. Altho i dont practice currently, it is very profound in my mind and heart. If as you say Jehovahs witnesses are some false cult, then tell me what other religion out there is the right one? which one upholds as a whole the standards that JW’s do? They make mistakes, but its individual mistakes, not the organization as a whole. I have found that Jesus has not come to start a religion but to mediate a new covenant. and all those who have the covenant revealed to them god says ‘he will write his laws in their hearts and minds and they will all know me from the least to the greatest. and no man will teach his brother know jehovah for they will all know me from the least to the greatest.’ this is the holy spirit that god gives to all who obey him as ruler. Not because of independant thinking from gods word but independant thinking from men who call themselves the only ‘channel’ to jehovah. whereas jesus is the only mediator between god and man. I was disfellowshipped because I believe the command to take the bread and wine is for all christians. i was disfellowshipped for doing what jesus said to do. work that out and i believed that command was for everyone because scripture stated ‘ go make disciples of people of the nation, teaching them to observe ALL my commandments.’ and the society has made divisions in the body of Christ which is the congregation. So when they threw me out of the congregation I wondered if they believed they were throwing me out of the ‘body’. Oh no we are not the ‘body’ the faithfiul and discreet slave are the ‘body’ we are just believers was the answer,’ so if you believe you are the ‘congregation’ how come you separate that from ‘body’ ,when the congregation is the ‘body’ Have you got any idea of the ‘confusion’ being generated by these men?

I know because it is my faith and belief, It has been a protection for me, I understand that you have reasons for your understanding but must reconsider i ask only to do something to pray to god for reassurance in your belief. I know in every religion you have your wolves in sheeps clothing i am certain that the word of the bible is true and will be completed i only fear that congreations and people will only get weaker in this time. You have good wisdom but should make sure it is of god and not of people for it is your salvation that is on the line. i am only saying this because i know how it feels. My family as well can be hard to handle they are JW and can be at times blind but you must not blame the word of jehovah it is mostly only sin do you not rememember the scripture where it says do not hate the sinner but the sin. it hard to forgive such behavior but will bring you to be stronger and wiser. All i ask is that you reexamine the jehovah . my husband and i were for awhile very lost i was raised in it and my husband a non believer but i loved him i saw him as something so wonderful and to me very good man but got judged for it because of how he wasn’t a JW i grew to start to hate them but remembered that the only one to judge is jehovah. I have been blessed with a great husband and son and am very strong in my faith it has kept me sain most of my life dealing with preassures. I just ask that you reconsider.
