Jehovah's Witness pedophile walked free from court despite one of his victims was a baby
A Jehovah’s Witness pedophile was spared prison despite admitting carrying out a string of sex attacks on young children.
Michael Porter, 38, used his trusted position as a ministerial servant to indulge his habits as a pedophile. One of his victims was an 18-month-old baby.
Jehovah’s Witness parents trusted him to look after their children, and Porter regularly babysat for youngsters, took them away on holidays and invited them for sleepovers at his home.
Michael Porter pleaded guilty to 24 counts of indecent assault and gross indecency on children at Bristol Crown Court.
He walked free from court on August 23 (2007) despite admitting his sexual abuse of young children. Judge Thomas Crowther handed him a three-year community rehabilitation order after hearing he had undergone therapy.
Judge Thomas Crowther said:
“This is a case which in my experience is exceptional, in a sense historic and revealed by you in unusual circumstances which I am sure are linked with the faith by which you now run your life. ..
I’m satisfied, having the advantage of a number of reports as to your early background, that the reasons for your behaving as you did are complex and personal and reveal that you were subject to pressures which make it understandable that you should have acted as you did in this case. ..
What’s important, in terms of sentence, to realize is that you had changed your life before there was any question of these matters being revealed and I’m as satisfied as I can be, whereas in some circumstances punishment by way of imprisonment is inevitable, this is not one of those, and the proper sentence is a community rehabilitation order.”
However, Porter’s sister Tina Hughes spoke out against the ruling and warned that her brother would commit further offences now he was back in society:
“I think the judge was absolutely pathetic. He just took my brother’s side completely and believed that all he needed was a bit more therapy and now realized he had done wrong. …
He blamed his childhood for the attacks, which was a lie, but the judge ate it all up. …
I just broke down in tears when the judge said he wasn’t going to jail. The whole courtroom went quiet. No-one could believe it. …
I can’t believe the judge thinks he is safe to be allowed out on the streets. He won’t stop. …He has gone back to London and left us to pick up the pieces. He hasn’t lost anything. He hasn’t even lost his wife. He hasn’t been affected in any way. He can go away and pretend nothing has happened because he doesn’t have to live here.”
A source said:
“One of the problems was that most of the victims were not prepared to make statements or give any kind of evidence. The offenses took place a long time ago and most of them seemed keen to put it all behind them.”
Mr Porter’s current Jehovah’s Witness congregation has stood by him despite confessing to his crimes, according to his sister. He is thought to be an elder at the Mill Hill Kingdom Hall, in Barnet, north London. Mill Hill is one of the most significant congregations in United Kingdom, as it is the official home congregation for the Branch Office of the IBSA (International Bible Students Association). Porter is listed as a “Trustee” for the Mill Hill Congregation with the UK Charities Commission.
Jehovah’s Witness elders from Porter’s Mill Hill Congregation assured media that Porter would be “supervised” as he attended meetings and door to door ministry to offer bibles studies with families.
Update: On 19 September 2007 the BBC reported that Porter’s case is to be reviewed by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). The Court of Appeal will now review the case to decide whether to increase Porter’s sentence.
A statement from the Attorney General’s office said:
“After a careful review, the Attorney General Baroness Scotland has decided to refer the sentence. She considers the sentence to be unduly lenient.
It will now be for the Court of Appeal to decide at a future hearing whether or not to increase the sentence.”

Some people read verses such as ISAIAH 45:7 and claim that it means God creates sin. But their problem is in their knowledge and understanding of the word evil.
They erroneously surmise that evil always means sin, but that is not the case. The word translated evil in scripture does not “necessarily” mean evil in the same sense that we understand evil in our day. We use the word evil today as a synonym for sin or wickedness, but that is not the case in scripture.

about religious involvement in America I was actually talking not in quantitative terms but in qualitative terms although -apparently- this seems an glaring contradiction. Cos apparently as you rightly said the quality has undergone some sort of watering down and this is correct.
But what I was referring to about the quality of this involvement is that, given all the information, culture, education, scientific progress and discoveries, and events available today (in comparison to 30-40 years ago) one, in their right mind, would expect religion to be some sort of bizzarre vestige of a more or less recent past.
Something so outdated as to be already remembered only in hystory books like an embarrassing and freakish phenomenon of the past, together with the holocaust, the crusades and like wonders by homo sapiens.
But no. today the issue of religion is topical more than ever, a testimony this of the devolution taking place among huge wastes of humanity.

You are obviously a lot younger than I am or you would know that religious involvement today is so much more liberal or watered down compared to 30-40 years ago. Now I speak to the general population of “religions” people. Don’t know about the JW experience as I was never one. One can become intolerant of what we don’t believe. That is when we began to drift away from the precepts for which this nation was created. I don’t believe the same as you but I can engage in civil discourse with you and learn from it as well enjoy the exchange. More often we judge a person by his or her behavior rather than by the title he or she wears. We see them at the sports park or city park and we watch. We see the way they act when the opportunity presents itself to give in time, money or material possessions. We are either repulsed or encouraged by the acts. We are all walking sermons whether we want to be or not. We keep our tempers in check in an awkward situation or we make the situation worse by letting them have a verbal thrashing. More often good behavior begets good behavior rather than the other way around. Can you imagine the cold wet snow of NYC without the trappings of Christmas? Be honest now. The sounds, the smells, the shop windows decorations, the activity can’t go without some reaction that is fun. You have got to smile sometimes at all that.

Please review my comments in my response to you. I wrote that if the UN had done what they should have, we would not be in the mess. They had 17 or 18 resolutions that was imposed on Iraq. The UN had been kicked out and no inspections were being made. We would not have invaded that country if the UN had done their job and followed through with their demands. With all the payoffs and kickbacks the members of the UN was receiving it would have been an end to the gravy train. The rest is history. I do not believe for one minute that we would have invaded that country if there had not been reason to believe that scud missiles were being armed with weapons of mass destruction and aimed at neighboring countries. Our great almighty UN didn’t seem too concerned about it.
I am wondering why someone in your region of the world has not raised their hands against the carnage and suffering in Zimbabwe. Why? Have any of your countrymen petitioned the mighty UN for help. Why do you point your finger at George Bush alone for the answer to the problem? We have our own Haiti in our back yard that humanitarian aid is being sent by interested care groups. We have not invaded and taken over the country. It is a quagmire and would benefit greatly if we changed the government. The difference is that the country is not a threat to us. May I suggest that you do a little research on the role of the UN in getting Saddam to abide by the resolutions that they imposed on him. Did they do their job? The theft in corruption within the UN was overwhelming. What is being done about that. Why have you not pointed your finger at them? Is it the responsibility of Bush to police the world? Would we be in the situation we are in today if the UN had enforced the rules? Just what role is the UN playing in to alleviate the suffering in Zimbabwe? Have you ever heard of grass roots organizations that starts with one and builds into groups that make a difference? You are much closer to the problem in your own hemisphere. Just what are you and your countrymen doing? Just remember we elect or rulers to protect us and make sure that our country is strong and safe. I don’t have all the facts as to why decisions are made in that effort. You don’t either. It is always easy to sit on the sidelines and throw stones. You are not here and you don’t know what kind of information he has. I promise that I will not bloviate about your government and leadership because I don’t have all the information they have when they make their decisions.

There is no food in this country as farmers were evicted for returning the land to the so called righteous owners who were beaten in a war about a century or so ago, much like the red Indians were driven from their land.
There is no oppostition party, as any opposition automatically goes to jail, not a pretty place to be in Zimbabwe.

Had some time to peruse those sites you posted.
They are brilliant.
As you know it is practically impossible to direct a JW to a website, especially when it may have negetive connotations to what they hold so dear. My only wish is that I could get hold of physical magazines where I could hand them over say “these are your God’s magazines, give them a read’.
My brainwashed clan will not listen to any logic, read any logic or think any logic. The amazing thing is they are not stupid people, not at all. They have this fundamental belief based on nothing other than faith, there is no proof of a God and neither is there any unproof, so to speak, but in their case there a mountain of proven false prophesies, proof of plenty of detrimental advise given to folk that could and can only do harm.This is brushed aside as though it never did or does exist.
Damn, these Watchtower folk are good.
Most people would agree that I should give up, live my own life and let them be, maybe they are right, but I can remember the good old days, celebrating a birthday or playing a bit of ball in the park.
