Disfellowshipped man arrested after threatening to blow himself up at Circuit Meeting
A disfellowshipped armed man threatened to blow himself up in a Circuit Assembly Hall in Rome Saturday where around 2,000 members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses were holding a Circuit Meeting, Italian media said.
The man barricaded himself inside a room on the first floor of the building after threatening the crowd, according to Sky’s TG24 news channel.
Police later managed to arrest him after the hall was evacuated.
Armed with a pistol and with electrical wires protruding from under his jacket, the man, identified as Angelo Cicero from a town near Catania on the southern island of Sicily, had jumped onto the stage at the Circuit Assembly Hall and threatened to blow himself up.
But after his arrest police did not find any explosives on him and his pistol was empty.
Cicero gave no reason for his threat but he had been expelled from the Witnesses last year and has tried several times to be reinstated.
He was known to the police for a number of felonies, including robbery.

I was difellowshipped about 10 years ago. The internal feelings I have felt have run the gambit. However I still am in limbo about a lot of things. I feel the truth is there and all other attempts to try and explain it away just sound like personal attempts to alieve fears and apparent disgruntled feelings they have. I see a spiritual paradise in Jehovahs organization. But I keep going back to thoughts and information that have been residing in my brain regarding the falacies that have been introduced regarding the watchtower Organization. Quite frankly Im confused, where at one time I was resolute in my belief system. I feel I have been poisoned by propaganda, slyly introduced by ones who are perishing. I am responsible for my actions. And I must choose to one course and stick with it.
I used to think if I were ever disfellowshipped I would dismantle completely from the horror of God’s disapproval. Not the case. I have not changed as a person, I just refuse to follow along when I see so much misery internally within this spiritual paradise. People with long standing Bethel and elder history make sexual overtures with single sisters while happily married is classic of the maladies of the human psyche. People who plod along and play along yet are obviously struggling emotionally, and yet mental suffocation takes its toll and they act out. I would gladly pursue reinstatement if I could be convinced it was the truth after all. After reading Ray Franz’s books there is no way, with all that I have experienced and felt in 30 years of being a witness, along with the evidence in his well documented accounts of man made authoritarian rule would it be plausible.

Firstly, pedophilia is a problem is many organisations, the sad truth is its easier to attempt to target JWs over this matter because there is very little they can genuinely be targeted for, and this is somethig that the media has used in the past. The way you keep going on about those abused by ‘pedophiles’, as if JW’s openly and knowingly harbor them, yet at the same time harp on about false accusations and judgements, then actually call THEM hypocritical. It sounds to me as if you’ve become very bitter and attempted to justify your own actions and shortcomings to yourself by relying on so much false propoganda. You will find stories of abuse and conspiracies virtually anywhere you look if it genuinely helps your cause, or the point you’re trying to make. Take some of your own advice and look at the rafters in your own eyes before you search for the splinters in other peoples.

I will address a couple of your statements. Obviously you are new to this religion, first by saying you’re studying and secondly by saying you’re not going to judge others or religion. Your new-found religion will take care of that for you & pretty soon you will be the same. What you should do is look for some of the wacko JW’s who have posted comments here that redefine the terms, ignorance, arrogance, uneducated, judgemental & naivety.
The WTS’ literature dogmatically pushes it’s agenda and constantly tears down other religions with accusations of false prophecy, pedophilia, hypocrisy, etc. What the WTS needs to do is apply their own propaganda to itself. Why don’t you ask the folks studying with you about the pedophile problem that is rampant throughout their religion. Ask about the WTS’ association with the UN for years, how about the fact that not one prophecy of this religion ever came true?

I am a studying student of the Jehovah Witnesses and I am not going to judge anyone nore put any religion down. I am however, going to say that if there is judgement who are you to judge. Have you previously been a witness? At one time you must have felt it to be true, what happened that led you astray? If you aren’t a witness or one studying then I feel you should look at bible text on judging others.

I agree with some of what you say above & in your last comment at the end of the article relating to the wierdo Michael Jackson.
The definition you have provided for a cult is valid, however you really should read the psychological aspects of a cult, not just the definition. In this way, you will realize that the WTS is a cult. Their whole modus operandi is completely designed to ensure the followers are kept in line. They do this with the use of the preaching work & judicial committees. If you have never been in a judicial meeting, perhaps you should read accounts of ones who have, you will not only realize that the WTS lives in the stone age in their method of justice, it’s extremely biased & totally unfair. Makes me think that whenever the WTS’s practices are discussed is whether or not Jesus would have done the same. After all, he professed brotherly love in all things, not a need to trample people & remove their individuality, thereby not allowing freedom of thought.
If you don’t agree with this comment, perhaps you should at your next meeting (perhaps 10 minutes from now, since there are how many meetings a week?) inform the elders that you don’t agree with one of the WTS’ doctrines, or how they are (mis)handling the pedophile problem, or perhaps their history of false prophecy? If I were a betting man, I would give you about 10 minutes before they lost it on you, without even listening to any facts. So my question is, since all of these factual issues are outstanding, “what exactly is this truth & why should anyone believe it after pondering the volumes of contradictory evidence they are guilty of?” If this were anything else in our lives to contend with, we would stay away from such stupidity.

Yes JW are far outside the mainstream and that’s good – At its start Christianity was also considered a cult and was persecuted and ridiculed. People are reading all these assumptions into the situation of the man who threatened to blow himself up. Assuming that he did it because he was being separated from his family – do we even know if he has a family. What we do know is that he has a criminal record and is well known for it. If he refused to turn his life around this may have been the reason for disfellowshiping him and refusing to reinstate him – we don’t know. The Bible clearly says that someone who has learned the truth and turned their back on it is worse that someone who was never a part of the congregation and is trampling on Christ’s sacrifice. There must be a point at which the organisation says, we can no longer tolerate this behaviour – we are not in a position to judge whether his disfellowshiping was justified or not because we don’t have all the facts.

Many of the posts here are not even related to the article but some people seem to be using this site to air their own personal grievances and tear down others’ faith. You should be able to state your views without the rancor and bitterness, and degrading other people which is so much present in some of these posts.

Ivan Freire, Why do Jw’s always assume that if one does not agree with the WT policies he or she must be a disfellowshipped person for a good reason? I can tell you for a fact that I was never disfellshipped. In fact, I disassociated myself over an issue of abuse for the simple reason that the majority of the elders decided to cover up an abuse matter. I could not be part of such hypocrisy, so I wrote the society and left. Even when the abuser confessed, they decided it was better to cover it up so as not give the congregation a bad name. Since I was not in agreement with the other elders I got up from the judicial committee and vowed to never return again. So for your information not all of us were disfellowship, many had the balls to leave for not agreeing with cover-ups.
If in those 18 years you have never seen or heard anything what kitty was talking about, you wife got you fooled too. You better watch out, it seems that there are lots of things the wife is not telling you.

Now blood, that is a good one. First they could not take any blood. Now witnesses can take blood fractions.
What is actually forbidden?
This is a complex question. As you may know the WTS still prohibits whole blood and certain blood components namely, red cells, white cells, platelets and plasma. But here is the key: they allow everything inside of these components to be used.
If you discount the membranes of the red cells, white cells and platelets, they are allowing somewhere between 97 and 98% of the blood. However, the membrane is stroma (protein/enzyme) and as a fraction it too would be permitted. So technically the WTS permits 100% of the blood in fractionated form.
Here is an analogy: It’s like saying, “see that truck over there, it’s stolen and you can’t buy it but if someone dismantles it, it’s not a truck anymore, it’s truck parts and you can buy what you want. However, the engine, the transmission, the radio and the disc brakes are special. They are the ‘primary’ components of the truck (i.e. the red cells, white cells, platelets and plasma). You can’t have these ‘primary’ components unless you first completely dismantle them. If you do that you can buy them too.”
Just how accurate is this analogy? Consider this: Red blood cells are prohibited by the Watchtower Society. What is a red blood cell? Nothing more than a donut shaped miniature bag of hemoglobin. Broken down by dry weight, the red cell is 97% hemoglobin and 3% bag (membrane). To permit hemoglobin and ban red cells is the equivalent of saying to someone, “see those bags of groceries over there? You can take the food from the bags, but I will report you to the police if you actually take the groceries with the bags.”

This KittyPride is no kitty, and has no pride. I am not one of Jehovah’s Wittnesses, but I am married to one, and could not be happier for it. This person whose appears at the beggining of this comment, is probably one of those disfellowshipped for a good reason. In the more then 18 years my wife has been one of Jehovah’s Wittnesses, I have never seen, hear of seen anything this bitter woman is talking about. Now wittnesses just like any other Christian groups, are compossed of human beings. Human beings are imperfect, so things happen in this organization also, but not in the larger scale that horrible things happen every day in other so called Christian Organizations. These people are not super-humans, they do act as such by sacrificing so much of their time freely in behalf of their fellow disoriented human beings, bur they are just simple human beings trying to do their best and live as best as they can according to the bible. So please miss Pride, don’t show your bitterness against these wonderfull people, but look inside yourself, and pray for yourself to Jehovah, perhaps he will help you along the way. And why are we considered a cult? And no matter what amount of pressure anyone is going through u dont go around threatening anyone with a gun or a bomb threat. And there is no way for this person to have tried several times to be reinstated if its only been a year time, at most he’d have to have asked twice. You guys are ridiculous and i find it pathetic that none of u have anything better to do than insult a decent religion that actually follows the bible more than any other religion. Just this world is too immoral to understand and want restrictions. Especially those who have done something bad enough to be disfellowshipped and not mature enough to deal with it.

I Was Blessed That Most Of My Family Was So Called “Worldly” But, I Still Have Some Family Who Can Not Speak With Me Left Behind Me In The Jehovah’s Witness Religion. Childhood Friends Who I Have Known Since I Was 10 Are All Gone. Surrogate Aunts, Uncles, People Who Contributed In My Upbringing Can No Longer Even Smile My Way.
I Very Much Feel For Angelo Cicero The Man Of This Article. Loosing Family And Friends. Being Made To Feel He Is Going To Be Destroyed By God With Sulfur And Fire At Armageddon Unless He Can Be Reinstated Back Into Jehovah’s Congregation.
