Moscow Police detains Jehovah's Witnesses during the Memorial of Christ's Death

April 14th, 2006 Leave a comment Go to comments

Jehvah\'s Witnesses in Moscow“They burst in at the height of the service, when the symbols were being passed,” Kanin, the spokesman of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia said, referring to the bread and wine used to symbolize Jesus Christ’s body and blood. “They wouldn’t even allow them to finish the ceremony. There was nothing secretive going on there.”

The Memorial was attended by about 200 Jehovah’s Witnesses. The police, who arrived in 10 squad cars after Moscow citizens reported the meeting, detained 14 Jehovah’s Witnesses and questioned the detainees between two and four hours before they were released.

The police told the worshipers that they were violating a 2004 ban on Jehovah’s Witnesses in Moscow.

In June 2004, the Moscow City Court barred the denomination from engaging in religious activities, citing a law that bans religious groups deemed to incite hatred or intolerance.

Kalin, the spokesman of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, said the ban applied to Jehovah’s Witnesses only as a legal entity and that the Russian Constitution guaranteed members freedom of assembly.

The U.S. State Department’s 2005 report on religious freedom, released in November, said that “some federal agencies and many local authorities” in Russia “continued to restrict the rights of various religious minorities” and cited specifically the 2004 ban of Jehovah’s Witnesses activities in Moscow.

The report cited “indications that the security services, including the Federal Security Service, increasingly treated the leadership of some minority religious groups as security threats.”

Criticism concerning the lack of religious freedom has been repeatedly dismissed by government and Russian Orthodox Church officials.

There are about 10,000 Jehovah’s Witnesses in Moscow and 142,439 in whole Russia, according to Watchtower statistics.

WOW!! Indeed a great deal of words – Do you suppose it is possible to Glorify God? Do you supose the person who created you has the right to exist?. Listen dear person, to deny God and to accept yourself is pure egostitical hypocricy! Cause you never opened your heart to consider something or someone cleaner than you does not mean that someone does not exist. Just because you never saw a Christian does not mean there is none! “By their fruits you shall know these men” Jesus said. Yes, Jesus is king to whom we all should obey and to the One true most powerful God Jehovah all should give True Worship!!

As ye say sire, but what is left of goodness on the earth? Do they take up swords against their fellowman?
Do they not give their complete alligence to Jehovah instead of to Caesar? Jesus said “By their fruits you shall know these men” Ye say of lot of hurtful words which is out of the hurtful heart – why?
If 1 or 6 or 600 or 6000 or 6 million people were touched in their heart to share scripture with others, not change them but to let words go heavenly praising their God, what harm have they done to anyone, let alone you? Good words continue forever and good works continue forever, some words stop at the first ears, the speakers! Alas, I am afraid most of your words are not only unhearable but not being seen at all.

    AH,

I just want to stop you there and say that not all the bibles are the same. You cannot for one second even think that the Bible which the Watchtower created to suite its teachings is the same as the Bible used in the Orthodox Church.

We dont change verses to suite our teachings…

The bibles are not the same…

Christ is the head of the Church. He built one Church…how many are there now? Im sorry…but they are not ALL Churches of Christ. There is only one true Church of Christ…

Yes I agree, please be sure to use the facts at your disposal to study what is the Watchtower.
That’s exactly what I did and found the following and more:

    1. FALSE PROPHECY – Widespread false prophecy on a level that rivals most other religions.
    2. HYPOCRISY – Blatant & irresponsible behavior befitting all corrupt & false religions. Make sure you study the facts on their association with the United Nations as one example.
    3. PEDOPHILE PARADISE – The Watchtower Society with their uneducated & inept stupidity is unfortunately protecting pedophiles within their faith, which really translates into protection of their image being more important than the welfare of the children.

Yes I highly encourage people to know the Watchtower. As far as using any Bible, that comment is sheer nonsense. The New World Translation published by the Watchtower Society (yes the one discussed above) is a biased and irresponsible edition, which no one could possibly promote.

The account at luke 16:19-31. The jerusalem bible, in a footnote, acknowledges that it is a “parable in story form without reference to any historical personage”. If taken literally, it would mean that those enjoying divine favor could all fit into the bosom of one man, abraham, that the water on ones fingertip would not be evaporated by the fire of hades, that a mere drop of water would bring relief to the one suffering there.
Does that sound reasonable to you??? If it were literal it would conflict with other parts of the bible, and the bible does not contradict itself.
Why in the bible to both good and bad people go to sheol or hades?
There is no pain or pleasure in sheol, the place you are going, the bible says.
If you truly believe in hell then you must believe the bible contradicts itself. Then you are not a truth lover but choose to believe according to yourself.

This is the Problem as I see it with JW…

The verses they use to prove their stupid demonic teachings are never relative to what they are trying to say…

Its like me showing someone a picture of apples…and trying to show them that lemons are yellow. What do the apples have to do with the lemons??

Its the same thing here…you take the verse about the “dead are conscious of nothing” are try to say its talking about the after life…WRONG! Its telling you, AS I SAID BEFORE, that when you dead…you cannot perform good works…thats what the CHAPTER is ABOUT! YOU CANNOT TAKE ONE VERSE AND USE IT! U NEED TO USE IT IN THE CONTEXT OF THE WHOLE CHAPTER.

There is SOMETHING after death…for both the Righteous and the Sinners.

Did you even read the story in read 16:20 -25. The rich man asked Abraham if he could send down Lazarus and dip his finger in water on onto his tongue to stop the anguish. He was suffering…

Dont tell me that a Loving God cannot punish his creatures…WHO ARE YOU TO EVEN THINK YOU CAN UNDERSTAND GOD!

  18. Anonymous
    November 24th, 2006 at 09:28 | #18

there is no pain or pleasure in sheol the place of death. A god of love would not torture his childeren. Go read again the dead are conscious of nothing that means there is NOTHING!!!! The penalty for sin is death-Rom 6:23- After death there is no more punishment for sin-Rom 6:7-
I n many bible versions the word sheol or hades has been replaced with hell, but not in all. Job prayed to go to hell, why would he do that? He was really just praying to die. Job 14:13
In revelation it says hell or hades will be thrown into the lake of fire, so we no that hell is not the same as the lake of fire since it is cast in there. The lake of fire represents eternal destruction which there can be no ressurection. So in the end it is saying that death will be no more since it will be cast into destruction.

    November 23rd, 2006 at 07:33 | #19

    My dear friend Adam…

Who has interpreted those verses for you?? Do you even know what they mean?

Lets take Ecclesiastes 9:5,6, and 10 for example. You have been told, so i gather, to think that this means there is no life after death? That there is no hell? Or that we do not have a immortal spirit?
Have you ever read the verses before and after those verses?? I know the watchtower only picks verses here and there to make their points, and never the whole context of the chapter, but read it for your self…
Its trying to tell you that the TIME IS NOW to do your good works. Cause when your dead…your dead! You cannot do go works anymore.
    Continue reading after verse 6:
7 – “Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; FOR GOD NOW ACCEPTETH THY WORKS.”

Also, read Luke 16:20 -25. The story of a begger named Lazarus, who dies and the Angels carry HIS SPIRIT to the bosom of Abraham. And the rich man latter dies and is buried and his spirit put to Torment. This proves that a spirit does exist, and that those who do not keep Gods word will receive torment.

And in the case of Jesus called God, HIS GOD…ofcourse he would, Christ was both Man and God at the same time…100% man…100%God. He was our example of the PERFECT HUMAN. He alone is perfect. And he showed us how to be perfect…that is why he called God HIS GOD. Also because he was humble…

    Hey Jones,

    Don’t worry about the spelling.
It’s great you are a good person. I know other good people, good Jews, good Muslims, good Chinese (my wife is one and I therefore know plenty of them).
I believe a person is good, not because where they come from, or their religious orientation. My earlier responses to you comments, probably were harsh, as I do this often, I apologise.
My own viewpoint is a determined hatred of all fundamental religions as they have caused more harm on this small planet of ours, than was ever necessary. If we got rid of religion, a lot of conflict would not be necessary and suddenly we would have trillions of dollars to help the hungry and the sick.
An old study of mine, now outdated, revealed the worth of only ONE F16 fighter being able to feed a large city in central Africa for 3 months.
Think what the war effort of all countries is worth.
    The mind boggles.

    Antiochian,

Your comment is just so very typical of the fundamental
    Christian.
The fundy once again side steps the issue at hand ie.
DO the Old Testament prophecies hold any water?
Instead I get told how ignorant I am. Every Christian denomination on this planet started off with the early Christians.

Do I believe in God? I suppose I do believe in A God.
Do I believe in Biblegod? His scientific knowlege
is appalling, he is a cold blooded murder of millions, if not billions, his son/himself is also a cheap fraud and a liar. No sir, I would rather worship a Great White Shark.

I have spent many hours on this site explaining why I feel this way and have backed up every statement I made with scriptural EVIDENCE.

So my little side stepping fundie, its all on this site, look them up, I am not wasting any more time for the likes of you.

My desire to do good comes from that book. How can I not say that my inspiration comes from any other source? My children are good citizens and they were raised on principles from that book. Our government and it’s laws are based on that book. How can I dismiss it when it fills my life and motivates all my decisions?

    Marcus,
The last comment was dead serious. Look at all the posts you two have made to all the people who do not agree with you. From my viewpoint, they are filled with anger and hate. You were in the same shoes as many of those people at one time. Just how did you react to anyone who tried to convince you that you were on the wrong path? You can get your point across without being so hateful. You are a pacifist but you do not speak as one who is eager to change someone with kind words alone. You address me with “Jonsey” and that is fine by me. That was what the class mates of my husband called him when he was in flight school. It followed him ’till the end of his career. I thought it was an endearing name. Is that the reason you decided to use it instead of “Jones” as I have identified myself from the start? Gender specific is not important here. If you have an ax to grind, please don’t use me as your sharpening stone. I wish I could ask you to pray for me, but given your belief I cannot do that. I guess I can but it wouldn’t do any good.
I am stepping out on a lot of faith here. I have offered to take in a young drug addict and help with her rehab. She is hooked on meth or Chrystal meth as it is called on the streets. I have offered her a job and help with concealing. If we are successful we will save a family with children. I am afraid of the unknown and do not know what I am getting into, but success or not, I will have done something.
Many blast organized religion but I see first hand what many can do with combined resources. Counseling agencies, missions for homeless people, drug rehab centers, homes for the aged, clothing and school supply drives for children starting to school, I could fill a page with what I see and have been blessed to contribute. My question has been for years is what has the JW done to rehab those of their own who have fallen into situations that they need help to climb out of? I cannot sing like John Lennon but I can at least do something to help someone and if it takes my support with a group to get it done, then I am available to do my part.

    Markus,

Just to clear up a few facts…the early Christians did not become the Roman Catholics. The Ancient Patriarch of Rome was apart of the Universal and Orthodox Church which still exists today. This is the Eastern Orthodox Church.
Russia is part of this Church. Along with Antioch (Syria), Jerusalem, Alexandria, Constantinople, Serbia, Greece, Japan, Africa and many other Churches…they are the one Church whose only difference is the language they use…

    Are you even Christian markus?
From your comment I can see you have no faith what so ever in Christ.

    Antiochian,

Thanks for the question. My line of thinking is not too difficult to follow, let me try to explain in simple terms.

The New Testament was written well after the Old Testament, I think we can agree here.
The New Testament was written well after the stories/events in them took place, if you don’t agree here you should because it is fact.
The early Christians, which later became the Roman Catholics were determined to start their own religion and to beak away from Judaism, we should agree here.

Do you not think it vaguely likely, and I want you to be honest with yourself here; that it was the early Christian’s wishes to make their new religion plausible and believable, and thus took it upon themselves to create accounts that fulfilled the prophecies of the Old Testament they knew so well?
You yourself said the JW’s fiddled around with the Greek texts to suit their own teachings, if they can do it, why not the early churches?
There is not one iota of historical evidence of Jesus’ existence, outside of the Bible, not bad for someone so popular and who could do anything, short of flying.

The idea of a virgin birth is not unique to the Bible, there are many much older myths that tell a similar story, especially with the Egyptians. Do a google search on virgin births and discover for yourself.

    Markus

Oh yes you let me have it. I was in a discussion with Marcus and I do not know where it was. Maybe he does. However you picked up the mantle and let me have it. You let me know that you were involved with children and delivering food to the elderly. I was trying to let Marcus know that my adherance to the bible principles had served me well in my life and how I raised my children. I had not even mentioned what and how I serve my fellow man. You came at me from out of nowhere. I responded to you with how uncomfortable I am at blowing my own horn as to what I do for others as I am convinced that no matter how much I do, it is never enough. Dear Claude and Edison.

Just something you may want to take note of…a story in Acts 8: 30 – 31:
“And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.”

Im sure you have read this before.
If every person in this world was to pick up the Bible and just read…they wouldnt understand anything. The BIble is not a History book or simple story book. Its the word of God…and God has sent His Holy Spirit to many who correctly interpret the Bible…
God guides many to interpret the teachings of the Bible.
Interpretation is necessary…but only by the right person.

And the watchtower is not that right person!!!

    Antiochian,

No sir, you are the one who must study and understand the evidence.
The New Testament was written AFTER the so called prophesies in the Old Testament were written and later read by the New Testament writers.
As I have said before 2 jet airliners will crash into the World Trade Centre. All I now have to do is pretend this was written before 11 September 2001, and VIOLA! I have myself a prophesy.

PS. Most translations come from the original Greek writings.

Actually if you read the old testament you see many prophesies about the coming of God in the flesh. Thats who Christ is…God in the flesh…”God was manifest in the flesh”. 1 Tim 3:16

Here is an OT prophecy for you to go study… ‘The Lord said “This gate (to the temple alter) shall be shut, it shall not be opened, no man shall enter by it, as the LORD GOD of Israel has entered by it” ‘ Ezikiel 44:1-4

Now if you actually study this carefully you will come to see this is a prophecy of the Virgin Mary. The ever blessed and glorious Mother of God, the Theotokos. Our LORD GOD has entered through her into our World.

    Christ is God.
    John 1:1-4
    1 Tim 3:16
    Titus 2:13
    Romans 9:5
    Phil 2:5 -7
    John 20:28
    Acts 20:28

And please, read these verses in a real Holy Bible, not the heretical JW version which they have created to suite their own teachings. I would suggest you read ‘The Orthodox New Testament’ if you can get ur hands on it…its a translation straight from the Original greek texts.

And remember, as it says in Phil 2:5-7. Christ was humble…he didnt walk around and say “Hey…look at me…IM GOD!” what sign of humility would that be…

“Those that have ears, let him hear”
Why would God want to give us everything? All the answers? How then would he know who is worth or not? Life is a test and Chirst our God is the Judge in the end…why would a examiner give you the answers to an exam before you sit for it?
You need to read the evidence and Pray that God shows you the way…

It is very misleading when your looking for something positive on the internet. This site almost claims to be run by watchtower and its sole purpose is to draw people of the truth in and mislead them. They could have called this site something different, then you all could agree with each other with no interuption from others. Its not till you actually read alittle bit that you realize that you all hate and despise JWs. Its very misleading, and not cool or god like at all. Anyway you all peace out and may God love you all.

JWs are not the only ones who reject the trinity or that Christ is God. I have studied in college and on my own, that doctrine did not arrive untill 300 years after christ died. He never claimed to be the almighty ever. ATLEAST LOOK AT THESE SCRIPTURES IN YOUR OWN BIBLEJohn 5:30 14:28 7:16 1 cor 11:3 matt 24:36

    There is many more.
Jesus is the son of God the almighty
