Moscow Police detains Jehovah's Witnesses during the Memorial of Christ's Death

April 14th, 2006 Leave a comment Go to comments

Jehvah\'s Witnesses in Moscow“They burst in at the height of the service, when the symbols were being passed,” Kanin, the spokesman of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia said, referring to the bread and wine used to symbolize Jesus Christ’s body and blood. “They wouldn’t even allow them to finish the ceremony. There was nothing secretive going on there.”

The Memorial was attended by about 200 Jehovah’s Witnesses. The police, who arrived in 10 squad cars after Moscow citizens reported the meeting, detained 14 Jehovah’s Witnesses and questioned the detainees between two and four hours before they were released.

The police told the worshipers that they were violating a 2004 ban on Jehovah’s Witnesses in Moscow.

In June 2004, the Moscow City Court barred the denomination from engaging in religious activities, citing a law that bans religious groups deemed to incite hatred or intolerance.

Kalin, the spokesman of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, said the ban applied to Jehovah’s Witnesses only as a legal entity and that the Russian Constitution guaranteed members freedom of assembly.

The U.S. State Department’s 2005 report on religious freedom, released in November, said that “some federal agencies and many local authorities” in Russia “continued to restrict the rights of various religious minorities” and cited specifically the 2004 ban of Jehovah’s Witnesses activities in Moscow.

The report cited “indications that the security services, including the Federal Security Service, increasingly treated the leadership of some minority religious groups as security threats.”

Criticism concerning the lack of religious freedom has been repeatedly dismissed by government and Russian Orthodox Church officials.

There are about 10,000 Jehovah’s Witnesses in Moscow and 142,439 in whole Russia, according to Watchtower statistics.

WOW Anonymous. Those are some good answers…
So im guessing you cannot actually answer those questions I asked? Or is it that the answers actually tell you something about how HERETICAL the JW teachings are. Their history alone should be enough to show any educated person that JW are not the smarted bunch.

James NON-JW. I agree with you. They have always been taught to TALK and NEVER LISTEN. Its so simple to read the truth…but they would rather ignore it.

Hello Anonymous AKA JW. Obviously you are a JW due to the thought provoking intellectual comment you posted…lol. Well done moron, keep it up. You are definitely living up to the reputation set by most clueless JW’s.
Antiochian, you have some good questions like many others here, however good luck getting any kind of response worth reading from the JW group, as the Anonymous ‘Clown’ posted. Usually their answers are half-baked, obviously from people way too deep into the cult. These types are why we have famous phrases such as: “He’s a few beers short of a six-pack” or “The lights are on yet no one is home” and my favorite “The hamster’s dead but the wheel keeps spinning.”

Thats all JW are good for…calling people who try to show them the other side of the coin “Apostates”!!!

What do you honestly know about your so called Watchtower? Have you even read anything about the Histroy of JWs?? The number of times they prophesied the end of the world only for it never to happen. The prophesy that the Old Testaments prophets will return to earth, only for that not to happen?

Your all being brain washed inside your kingdom halls. There is no truth behind your teachings at all.
Who were the 5 chaps that translated the version of the Bible for JW?? What qualifications did they have? Do you know this? Go look it up…

What bible did JW teach from before this translation was crafted to suite JW teachings? Why did they need their own translation?

Can you answer all of these questions??

    And keep this in mind….
The Church came before the physical Bible…for decades they taught by words and Tradition alone. Have you ever wondered what was preached by the Saints and Apostles before a complete copy of the Bible was developed?
    Go find out…

Have any of you people actually studied the bible. Jesus spoke about making Gods name known to mankind, and also said the father is greater than he is.
YHWH or JHVH appeared in the hebrew scriptures over 7000 times and we know that Jesus read aloud some of these scriptures containing this name Yahweh or Jehovah. At John 20:17 Jesus said I am Ascending to my father and your father to your God and my God. Jesus also spoke of things that only the father knew of. Mark 13:32.
Truth seekers also know threre is no hell fire for the bible says the dead are conscious of nothing at all Ecclesiastes 9:5,6,10. The bible also says that the good news will be preached throughout the earth by an undivided religion. Mathew 24:14- 1 corinthians 1:10

your not a christian your a total loser

  23. November 10th, 2006 at 06:29 | #23

Since when did JW become Christians?
To be called a Christian one must be of Christ. Put on Christ. This means accepting Christ for who he is…not what “YOU” belive He is.

Christ is GOD and there is no question about it.
Just because the JW bible has been totally messed around with to fit their teachings, does not make it truth.
Go back to the original Greek translations.

JW appeared out of the wind almost 1700 years after Christ and claim to be His only true Church.
JW are not Christians. They are puppets of the Devil….Just as the devil used the Apostle Peter to stop Christ from going to Jerusalem, the devil is now using these poor souls, JW, to pull people away from the Trut h and from our God and Saviour Jesus Christ.

I’ve been hanging around this site for a bit now, and it is very clever and informative. The truth is that JW’s are very clannish ,and those who join have a seige mentality. (Not those second generation types who know nothing else). I was never one myself but I used to go to the meetings and that, (converting a churchgoer wins them extra points, apprently) and they were trying to convert me. I suppose I didn’t feel so superior so everyone else that I believed that god would pick me out for special treatment and I would be a member of the only organisation who was off to live in Paradise earth while everyone else burnt up like a bit of paper (can’t recall the theology right, but then it has been many years).
But the thing is, I can’t see how any religion has ‘the truth’ and how Biblegod can be real. I mean, if you get comfort from the notion of being watched over, very nice, but surely if Biblegod, the almighty creator of everything from massive galaxies to the tiniest rock on a faraway planet, exists he would be too big and not care or even know to act in such a petty way, going to a tiny planet in the back of beyond, picking out one species, getting involved in their rows and wars. A bit like a scientist insisting the ants in a colony in a lab four citiies away worship him on pain of eternal punishment!
I was, by the way, a Christian for almost a quarter of a century till I read and thought and used reason. If Biblegod was really the creator and wrote his word to help us get saved, would he really allow for many different interpretations? I mean, you get various branches of Christianity taking the same Scripture and arguing for various, opposite points. If there is one way to salvation why doesn’t Biblegod, who loves us all enough to die for us (or send his son if you like) allow such dischord? Surely it would be easy for him to unambigiously tell us the road to salvation and not have us falling out amongst ourselves. There are many different groups, all claiming they have the truth, and all from a reading of the same Scriptures, the same words, in the same order. (Even the JW’s founders and Seventh Day Adventists read the Scriptures and interpreted, even though it was a long way back.)
My reading has told me that ALL religions are made up, the conventional Christian and off-the-wall beliefs just like Islam, Hinduism, Judiasm, the lot.
    Anyhow. . .
    Thanks for listening. . .
    All the best.

Doing what I think is right is not necessarily right! For years, I had margarine instead of butter thinking I was doing the right thing. Now it has been proved that butter is much better, in fact, margarine is very bad. (doing what I though was right was very bad for me.

I know that you “witnesses” love to teach by means of illustration, so I hope you can understand the analogy of margarine

As for teaching from the bible, yes you are correct, they teach from the bible, one that they themselves wrote. So, what is your point here???

Jehovah’s Witnesses doing the work of the devil thinking they are in fact working for God!

  39. May 24th, 2006 at 22:29 | #39

“…they come strictly from the bible. And they are only doing what they think is right.”

“For you have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it.” Gal 1:13

Saul was doing what he thought was right also.

“…and the time is coming when those who kill you will THINK they are doing God a service.” John 16:2

Think of their faith as if looking to invest or buy into a huge firm/operation. What is required is due diligence, researching their true history, performance (prophecies), method of operation around the world, etc. Your approach is of a person who believes andything they read or are told. My tip for you: Don’t drink the Kool-Aid.

Yep, they are only doing what they think is right (sarcasm intended), I guess everyone else is doing what is wrong.
Listen here little peewee just because someone thinks he/she is doing the right thing does not mean they are!
As for the right to have their own religion/cult, you right about that and you are not alone out there. And the funny thing is each one thinks they are the only true religion. What makes you so special and different from the rest????

What amazes me most is the fact the JW’s are told not to hold friendship with the world and to flee form ‘false religion’. Whereas the WTS has no problem holding conference carried out by CESNUR together with other extreme cults so as to achieve legal status and privileges. The WTS also makes use of Golina Krylowa a well-known Scientology lawyer to represent its interests in Russia.

I though that a person should be entitled to freedom of religion (if one can call Jehovah’s witnesses that) on the other hand Watchtower.ca lost a right of freedom of expression and because of laws that are in place lost the right to express itself on the web.

If the law in Russia says they (Jehovah’s witnesses) are not allowed to assemble themselves together, is it any different from the law that closed watchtower.ca????

Should they also obey the law of the land????

Please feel free to call me an apostate and contradict me.
