I read the posts. Most of the posts here are nothing more than personal attacks against each other without dealing with the subject. Others are attacks against honest and law abiding citizens who have nothing to do with the matter at hand.

I am totally dismayed that someone would mess with children in this way. The things that man did are vile and repugnant. It turns my stomach. The Bible clearly condemns these types of behaviors. It is very sad and very damaging to a congregation when someone slips in and acts like a predatory wolf, seeking to destroy. My heart goes out to the victims and their families.

I have read about fifteen articles regarding this case. There are many facts in this case which are being ignored by many posters. Perhaps a bit of truth will be refreshing and set the stage clear.

First, this person did those heinous things for about 14 years during the 1980s and 1990s. The news articles do not say who the victims are. I am sure that is protected information. I could be wrong, but I do not believe that any of the victims were children of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The articles did not say when this man started to associate with Jehovah’s Witnesses. I say that I do not believe that because Jehovah’s Witnesses do not tolerate pedophiles. Every place in any publications of Jehovah’s Witnesses, pedophilia is condemned, always has been condemned, and is an offense that can cause removal from the Congregation if the person is not repentful.

The established protocol for dealing with a repentant ex-pedophile is simple and straightforward. Any person convicted of pedofilia can never be appointed as an elder or ministerial servant. That individual can never be allowed to be alone in the vicinity of children. That means whether in the field service or at the Kingdom Hall or any place else. This is a life time protocol in which the offender can never recover. I know that someone will deny that statement and say that he or she personally knows someone, who committed pedefilia and is a servant. I would like to see proof of that, not just an empty accusation. Send me a name and congregation, I will personally investigate the matter.

You might ask, why would such a person be allowed into the congregation? Convicted pedophiles must serve whatever sentence given by the court. After that, it is considered that they paid their penalty. Whether individuals think that the sentence was appropriate or not has to deal with the courts. Whatever penalty the courts impose has nothing to do with further penalties that Jehovah would impose, depending of the person’s heart condition. In Michael Porter’s case, it looks like the prosecution objected to the sentence and more was to come. I cannot seem to get information as to the outcome of the appeal of sentence. I would imagine that his sentence was changed to a more appropriate punshment, but like I said, I cannot find more information about it. Maybe someone can give me a refence to look at?

In the case of a notorious crime like this, the pedophile would not be allowed to go from door to door. The public would be sorely offended and outraged by this. It might takes twenty to thirty years for this person to live down the horrible things he did, but make not mistake about it. He has to pay the consequences for what he did, even if it take the rest of his life.

I did not review the court documents, but in reading the comments from the judge, we have to realize some things. He did not commit acts of pedophilia for at least 7 years. During that time he acted appropriately as a reformed man. When it came to light about what he did, the elders in his congregation told him that he has only one recourse. He has to face Ceasar’s law and suffer the consequences. As the facts bare out, he went to the police and voluntarily turned himself in. Until that time, the police were not aware of his wrongdoing. The clear fact is that he turned himself in, BECAUSE the elders in the congregation told him to. That does not look like a cover up to me.

For those of you who say that the Jehovah’s Witness organization supported the pedophile, and held him in good standing after they knew of the problem, or that he was allowed to go from door to door after the relevation, you are wrong. The evidence is clear. He was told to go to the police and deal with the matter. There was no cover up.

I personally think that the judge was too lenient. But I also understand that he was impressed that the man voluntarily turned himself in, and had led a clean life for a number of years before his voluntary confession. Perhaps the judge felt that this person was indeed reformed.

I know, and I can almost hear the keyboards buzzing away as some of you frantically write hostile notes in rebuttal, some will think that the only appropriate punishment is death or something similar. Please, however, take note that in the early Christian congregation, people who had done vile things in their past, quit doing those vile things and started to lead good Christian lives. Note this scripture: (1 Corinthians 6:9-11) “What! Do you not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom. And yet that is what some of you were. But you have been washed clean, but you have been sanctified, but you have been declared righteous in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the spirit of our God.” Because of the wording of this scripture, it is easy to that it is not man who will do the judging, but God himself.

I also noticed that some posters were very quick to state that the Jehovah’s Witness organization did not come out and disown this person. To do that without the facts would be reckless and could be more harmful than good. Newspaper articles are notorious for inaccuracies. Correction to inaccurate statements in newspapers rarely take the prominence in the paper where the article was first posted. Before making a statement, the facts have to be ascertained. Consider this admonition: (Proverbs 18:13) “When anyone is replying to a matter before he hears it, that is foolishness on his part and a humiliation.”

After all the facts were presented, Michael Porter was indeed removed from the congregation. Later facts reveal that Michael Porter was never an elder in any congregation. There was one person who posted that he “knew” that he was an elder, but did not give any evidence to that statement.

Make no mistake about this. Practicing or unrepentant pedophiles are not allowed in the organization. Anyone saying the contrary, I challenge you to put your proof where your mouth is. Every case that I have seen mentioned on the Internet in the past 10 to 15 years regarding JW pedophiles has turned out to be a hoax. If you think I am wrong, then provide the proof.

Let me make one more comment. I also read someone post that there has to be two witnesses to establish and confirm guilt of sin. That is a protection against false accusations. It would not be right to chastise or disfellowship someone on the accusation of one person. HOWEVER, in the case of suspected pedofilia, or other sex crimes, an investigation will be made on the basis of 1 complaint. If there is denial of wrongdoing, that person will be carefully watched and monitored. Jehovah’s Witnesses are careful to note that not all people who try to associate themselves with Jehovah’s Witnesses have pure motives. Some are like the wolves that Jesus and the apostles warned about. That is why the elders have to be ever vigilant about protecting the flock, and especially the children.

Unrepentant sinners do not like to associate with the Jehovah’s Witnesses. They usually stay away. People usually do not stay where they are unwelcome. Unrepentant pedophiles are unwelcome in the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. If one sneaks in , he is always discovered, and always removed with as soon as he is discovered.

I stand by my challenge. Show me evidence, not heresay, and not a distorted article in a newspaper. I will look into the matter and report back.

Big deal, this happens everyday with Catholics not to mention it also happens with Mormons, Muslims, Jews and atheists. Do people fear JW’s? They’re people just like the rest of em, all these sites dedicated to “exposing” them and their watchtower society. It’s ridiculous and the world could do without people stating what everybody else should already know. People will murder, rape, destroy - commit all sorts of atrocities. Not because they’re JW’s, not because they’re Catholics but because they’re people. Get over it please, if you want to “expose” anything, expose those who spend too much of their time creating unnecessary conflicts, unnecessary hate when they can go spend time with their friends and family instead.

This article is pointless, it could have been titled in any form and it would still be pointless, an entire blog like post dedicated to this, complete rubbish. Placing Jehovah’s Witness next to pedophile in a sentence doesn’t make it any more interesting than saying: “An American Pedophile” - “A Catholic Pedophile” - “Pedophile Teacher” - ” Pedophile Doctor”, they exist everywhere and trying to point out that some of them fall within the JW’s religous sector is an old game. There are far more pedophiles/muderers/rapists who are atheist or catholic than those who are JW’s. Argue that there more people in those sections as a reason for it if you’d like to but quite frankly I don’t care. I just cannot believe people that “believe” they’re doing something good or think they’re above others still post such hateful crap. In your hometown there’s a pedophile, go find him! mwah x
