WTS falsifies its History

B. J. Kotwall

Perhaps the
most frequently repeated lie in the Watchtower Society’s (WTS) publications
is that from 1876 onwards

- 38 years before 1914 - they forecasted that 1914 marked
the START of “the conclusion of the system of things”.

In support the WTS often quotes the Bible
Examiner
. This paper was published by one

George Storrs (1796-1879) who greatly influenced Charles
Russell the first president of the WTS. Russell wrote in the
Bible Examiner
of 1876 an article called
Gentile Times: When Do They End?
This article is frequently referred in WTS publications but
has never been quoted in full for obvious reasons.

We are quoting below an extract
from this article to show that what WTS now says about what Russell

actually wrote in 1876 is dishonest. Russell referring to
the Gentile Times as a period of 2520 years wrote:

At
the commencement of our Christian era, 606 years of this time had
passed…which deducted from 2520, would show that the seven times
would end in 1914…We will ask, but not now answer, another question:
If the Gentile Times end in 1914, (and there are many other and
clearer evidences pointing to the same time) and we are told that
it shall be with fury poured out; a time of trouble such as never
was before, nor ever shall be; a day of wrath etc., how long before
does the church escape? as Jesus says, “watch that ye may be accounted
worthy to escape those things coming upon the world”.

Bible Examiner October 1876
pp. 27-28

The fact is that
the article by Russell does not and could not have referred to 1914
as the START of the “conclusion of the system of things”. Russell
firmly believed that “the conclusion of the system of things” (also
called the “time of the end”) began in 1799, and that Christ came
invisibly in 1874 and that the church would “escape” before 1914.
It was taught by Russell almost right up to 1914, that 1914 was
going to be the END of the “system of things”.

For example:

We
see no reason in changing the figures - nor could we change them
if we
would. They are, we believe, God’s dates, not ours. But bear
in mind that the end of 1914 is not the date for the beginning,
but for the end of the time of trouble.

The Watchtower
July 15, 1894 p. 226

…the
full end of the times of the Gentiles, i.e., the full end of their
lease of dominion, will be reached in A.D. 1914; and that date will
be the farthest limit of the rule of imperfect men
.

The Time Is At Hand
1889 p. 76-77.

Following are a
few extracts from WTS’s CD-ROM acclaiming or implying their sham
prescience about 1914 marking the START of “the conclusion of the
system of things”.

Awake!
1973 1/22 p. 8
Of all men used by God to prophesy,
Jesus is outstanding. Based on what he said, along with the words
of Daniel and John, Jehovah’s witnesses pointed to the year 1914,
decades in advance*, as marking the start of “the conclusion of
the system of things.”

*See, for example, the Bible Examiner, Vol.
XXI, No. 1 (Whole No. 313), October 1876, pages 27, 28.

Awake!
1973 10/8 p.18
So counting from 607 B.C.E. when the
Gentile nations gained exclusive domination of the earth, when do
those “appointed times” end?
The answer is 1914. Jehovah’s witnesses pointed to that year as
early as 1876 in an article written by C. T. Russell and published
in the Bible Examiner. Thirty-eight years later that
marked year of 1914 arrived.

Yearbook
1975 p.37
Even earlier, however, C. T. Russell
wrote an article entitled “Gentile Times: When Do They End?” It
was published in the Bible Examiner of October 1876,
and therein Russell said: “The seven times will end in A.D. 1914.”
He had correctly linked the Gentile Times with the “seven times”
mentioned in the book of Daniel. (Dan. 4:16, 23, 25, 32) True to
such calculations, 1914 did mark the end of those times and the
birth of God’s kingdom in heaven with Christ Jesus as king. Just
think of it! Jehovah granted his people that knowledge nearly four
decades before those times expired.

The
Watchtower 1981 2/15 p. 10
Hence, another respected authority
(Harold Macmillan) adds his voice to those of numerous statesmen
and historians who, in looking back, recognized the significance
of the year 1914. Yet, decades before that year arrived, dedicated
students of Bible prophecy were able to identify 1914 as a climactic
turning point. (The “Bible Examiner,” October 1876, pp. 27, 28)
These Bible prophecies also reveal that the “generation” that saw
the events beginning in 1914 would also see the “conclusion of the
system of things.”—Matt. 24:3, 7-22, 32-35.

The
Watchtower 1983 5/15 p. 16

As early as in the year 1876, in an article that he submitted for
publishing in The Bible Examiner, the president
had pointed forward to 1914 as the date for “the times of the Gentiles”
to end, with serious consequences for the whole world of mankind.
(Luke 21:24, Authorized Version) Amazingly, at the
time that the president announced to the Brooklyn Bethel family
that the Gentile Times had ended, the first world war of all human
history was in its 66th day.

Revelation
- Its grand Climax At Hand! (1989)

p.105

From the mid-1870’s, Jehovah’s people had been anticipating that
catastrophic events would start in 1914 and would mark the end of
the Gentile Times.

The
Watchtower 1990 10/15 p. 19
For 38 years prior to 1914, the Bible
Students, as Jehovah’s Witnesses were then called, pointed to that
date as the year when the Gentile Times would end. What outstanding
proof that is that they were true servants of Jehovah!

Our
Incoming World Government (1977) p. 131
Ever since the year 1876 those who
became associated with the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society and
the International Bible Students Association had been publicly declaring
that the Gentile Times would terminate in early autumn of 1914.

What should be remembered
is that the present leaders of the WTS have rescued only the phrase
“end of the Gentile Times” from pre-1914 WTS publications as can
be seen from the above quotations. What they deceitfully do not
tell is that 1914 marked, in pre-1914 publications, the end of the
world and the ushering in of Armageddon at that time.

Watchtower says:

A
religion that teaches lies cannot be true.

How about google the major NY Papers of 1914 and see how long they had been telling of something drastic to change in the affairs of man?

Bucky, one only has to read your post to see how much a faithful (Joe Hover) witness your are.

Are you basing a true religion on ONLY one scripture their swords into plow-shears?
What about love your neighbor as yourself? What about showing love for your enemies? What about showing love to your family, yes the ones who decided they no longer want to be a witness and leave? What about false prophesies coming out of the WT? Don’t these scriptures also count???
What about the child molesters harbored by your WT society?

Have you beaten your swords into plow shears or do you still belong and support war like(christain) organization? What I go by is what I feel standing before Jehovah - whom even the KJV says is “most high over all the earth” - and the fact that we imperfect men strive with all our might to be more christlike every day. Do you and I? You see, the word Christian means one who is striving to be Like Christ - even the word Christ means messiah or annointed one. Annointed by Jehovah to lead you and I and mankind back to the relationship man had before your grandfather (Adam) sinned and disrupted our relationship with Jehovah. Jesus is in fact the second Adam and reigns over all honest hearts as King whom we obey, and worship the same God he worships, Jehovah!!

One MUST beat swords into implements of peace in order to love HIS neighbor - and remember, the God of this world has the power to Turn rods into snakes, but love for your neighbor could not be more than to talk to him about the Grand Creator whose snake ate up the snake of Satan. Power is no problem - And the FIGHT for power started when the spirit person who MADE himself a Resister of Jehovah - and Buckys shadow, that fight is still going on today. Whose soldier are you? You have to be for one or the other!! Every one on earth has to be on one side or the other. My sword is the word of God that has the power to ascertain the intentions of the heart. Whose words do you espouse?

Correction bucky: One must remove his head from the WT’s ass in order to love HIS neighbor – and remember, the God of this world has been doing a much better job than the God or your world, who apparently has been sitting on his ass for thousands of years doing absolutely nothing! Please don’t tell me he is just trying to show Satan a liar, that wouldn’t require thousands of years.

You can’t even love your family but yet you talk about loving your neighbor???? Hum talk about hypocrisy.

For your information I am not a Joe Hover soldier (WT). Yes I do have to be for one or another. For sure my God is not the WT. This God has had so many false prophesies coming out of its mouth, that I could not believe it again, even if its tongue was notarized!

Correction my friend, your sword is the word of the WT; please never confuse the WT with God. One has nothing to do with the other.

“Son of Man, a watchman is what I have made you to the House of Israel. and You must HEAR from my mouth speech and you must WARN them from me. When I say to someone wicked, you will positifvely die, and you DO NOT actually warn him and speak in order to warn the wicked from his wicked way to preserve him alive, he being wicked, in his error he will die, but his blood I shall ask back from YOUR own hand. EZEK 3:17-19 - Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, teaching THEM to observe ALL the things I have commanded you. And Look, I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things. Math 28: 19&20 - Did you notice fri, that for one (you and I) to have JESUS with us on this earth what we get to be doing - we get to be learning and teaching all the words commanded us. And this GOOD NEWS of the Kingdom will be preached in all the INHABITED earth “FOR A WITNESS TO ALL THE NATIONS” and then the end will come. Math 24:14.Dunno how much longer this system gonna last, but what a honor and priviledge to bear witness for Jehovah as Jesus did and is -These are the things that the Amen says, the FAITHFUL and TRUE WITNESS, the beginning of the CREATION BY GOD. Bucky, If you are a JW your mind is being controlled. Mind-control is most effective when people think they are exercising free will, but if the person is programmed to act as a self-regulator, then the control is really successful. Most Witnesses will argue that they exercise free choice, but if I offer you a choice from a selection, strictly limited by me, is that really a choice? Picture yourself in an airplane and at meal time the steward will come and ask you “Chicken or beef?” Is that really a choice? NO, it is an illusion of free choice and it is effective because you are led to believe that your can choose. Witnesses have their choices very limited in many areas, but still they think they have a choice when in fact choices are made for them. Armies control people. Basic training reprograms the soldier’s mind to do the will of the Army under special conditions, but in civilian life, the recruit is allowed freedom of expression and choice (JW do not outside the Kingdom Hall have free choice). Children are controlled by parents (or they used to be!), but this is temporary and the child breaks free in adolescence to stand alone, and parents are happy to see their children grow to maturity and become INDEPENDENT of their necessary control. Unfortunately witnesses will never have this freedom; choices are always made for them, but most of them never realize this.

Let us suppose that your mind is controlled. Would you know it? How could you? Surely the whole point of mind-control is that the person being controlled is UNaware of it. Does a puppet know he is being controlled? NO! Still he moves happily. You are taught that Satan the Devil is the ruler of this world and everything, everyone on this planet, except Jehovah’s Witnesses, is under his control. The Witnesses attend meetings three times each week plus perhaps, 20 minutes before and after each gathering. During that time, the ideas and language of Jehovah’s Witnesses are continually reiterated. Witnesses rely upon the Writing Committee of the “faithful slave” to research for them. This is encouraged by the leadership. Regarding personal study, The Watchtower said, “do some spiritual digging in order to begin getting the very knowledge of Jehovah’s heavenly organization” (w15/6 98) where is this “digging” to be done? In the Bible? NO. But the Watchtower Index.
If you ever want to memorize something, sing it. It is a very effective way to learn and remember written material. One note or phrase can help you recall a whole song that you have not sung for years. (”Baa, baa, black sheep, have you…..”) All of the 225 songs used in Witness meetings are written by Jehovah’s Witnesses to avoid the influence of so called “false religion” in the hymns of the Christian church (this does not prevent Witness writers “borrowing” musical phrases and themes). Each week at Witness meetings, six songs in total are sung and Witnesses are “encouraged” to sing these as part of their worship and to listen to the “up-building” music of Kingdom Melodies at other times. When listening to these tapes, the words of the songs inevitably come to mind. Music is a very powerful influence as the Society itself is aware - it discourages listening to popular “worldly” music.

Does the leadership control other information? Yes, most effectively. It never actually forbids the reading of any material, but “advises”, “encourages”, “reasons with”, the faithful Witness to avoid material which, as they say “is harmful to you. If, in research on the internet, you find facts at odds with what you have been taught, will you explain these away by saying that they are lies created to mislead you?
How do you view people who are not Witnesses? Do you believe they are immoral and dishonest? Do you disbelieve the stories about Jehovah’s Witnesses who have committed fraud, child abuse, rape and other crimes? Do you think that they were never “proper” Jehovah’s Witnesses? Do you try to convince yourself that they were “never really in the truth”? The facts show that some active and approved Witnesses are dishonest, yet you still have contact with them. Suppose that you dare to criticize something connected with “Jehovah’s organization” - what will happen? Won’t other Witnesses quickly withdraw from you because “you are discouraging”? “Read God’s Word the Holy Bible Daily”. Witnesses are encouraged to study the Bible, but they are told that they cannot understand it unless it is explained to them. And by whom? By the “faithful and discreet slave” composed of about 5, 000 spirit-anointed” men and women world-wide, but represented by only a dozen men in Brooklyn. If they are the faithful and discrete slave how come the instructions only come from the 12 or 13????
At the end of every assembly, a speaker from the national headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses usually gives an inspiring talk relating how “Jehovah has blessed his people in xyz country”- usually involving b numerical increases and experiences in various lands. These talks, and others on assembly programmers, are often punctuated by enthusiastic “spontaneous applause” from a claque, cued by expressions such as “Isn’t that something we are all very happy about Brothers?” (Applause) Have you been told that the New World Translation is the best of all Bible translations? Do you believe that only Jehovah’s Witnesses, as a special group of people, were chosen by God, to “preach the good news before the end comes”? Although the Bible warns Christians not to judge others since we are all sinners, Jehovah’s Witnesses do this all the time. It is reasoned that, although we cannot judge the inner man, we can know his “heart condition” (spirituality) by his words and actions - “out of the heart’s abundance the mouth speaks”. That is enough for Jehovah’s Witnesses. Those who do not attend all meetings are “weak” or uncommitted unless they have exceptional reasons. Even in the case of severe disability, every effort is made to attend meetings and assemblies - in wheelchairs or on beds and stretchers if necessary.
If a man works shifts, he will be encouraged to find other employment and if he wishes to gain a position as elder, he really must attend the Kingdom Hall regularly. Tales are told of Witnesses traversing crocodile-infested rivers or terrain frequented by dangerous animals to attend meetings, while The Watchtower encourages swapping of unpopular shifts with fellow-employees so that Witnesses do not miss meetings. And a woman “paid a fellow-worker to cover her shift so that she could be free to attend these important meetings” (w1/9 98) Are Jehovah’s Witnesses “brainwashed”? Yes, definitely.
Witness converts soon learn that they should answer “question and answer” meeting parts “in their own words”. This means that they should not read answers verbatim from the paragraphs of The Watchtower or study book being used. Instead they should rephrase their answers. This does not mean that they will answer in their own words because they will still conform to the well-understood jargon phrases of Jehovah’s Witnesses e.g. “Babylon the Great” which is the “world empire of false religion” instead of “all religion in this world which does not worship Jehovah through his organization and, according to the Society, has pagan origins from ancient Babylon If you stay in the organization,.

The longer you vacillate, the more difficult it is to leave. If you do not act soon, you will slip back into inertia and, before long, you will be passively swallowing all the spiritual junk “food” again, as fast as the “faithful steward” can serve it. The Watchtower claims to be the bridge between God and mankind but unfortunately the only bridge they have is Brooklyn Bridge.

When the great industrial revolution was into full swing and it took mens hearts and minds from the possibility of there being a great all powerful God, they then started putting more and more time and effort into making of a God(money) and any sembelance of true worship mostly departed from the earth. Why cannot man learn peace be loving instead of causing strife and pain and dissension. What has the true worshippers done wrong? What other religion has beaten their swords into plowshears?

Dear Buckle,

Nobody will ever beat their swords into plowshears,
some preach as much, some beat their followers into preaching the same, this has been and still is happening, since 1914 and even earlier, they are still preaching the same old long disproved tune.
Show me the money honey, stop talking nonsense.
Not one prophesy has come true over thousands of
years, what makes you think they are suddenly going
to come about?
The Bible was written by senile old men many many years ago. Many stories borrowed from earlier myths.
You will read a few verses and it will miraculously change you into a holier than thou idiot. Read the WHOLE of the Bible, not only the pretty few lines. Live ain’t so peachy in that good old dusty book. I really wish you would take the time he read the whole of the good book before you act like an Angel coming to the rescue.
Cheers,
Markus

Please strive to be a little more humble, go into the closed in your room, get down on your knees and ascertain what you gonna do with your life beside hate righteousness. I love you man(Agape) - you ever heard of it - it is principled love - yup, learned it studying with the JWs. I don’t think I would have learned it in Babylon the Great!! Actually, you remember before the dawn of scientific age, the words “Stars more numeous than the Grains of sand on the sea shore. When I went to school we thought there were only one Milky-way. As for when you were in school you thought that there was only one Milky Way.

Well years ago WT believed the end of the world in 1914, 1925, 1975, and 2000. What does the WT believe now???

It appears prophesies keep changing so rapidly that is hard to find what is what.

Secondly, I do not care about being called Mr.

why your God thinks the world is round. Do we have a deal here?

Is this the awe-inspiring wisdom that has you assessing mankind’s departure from organized religion? Yes, we should adopt fanatic ideals of religion, in that we rid ourselves of all technological advancements, whether that entails computers, medical & pharmaceutical, vehicles, all forms of fabrication & manufacture, etc. We should ride around in buggies with no access to phones or communication tools, just so we can embrace some mindless individualistically–robbing religion that professes to speak for God. This same organization of ivory tower oriented self-important morons who are pathetically distance from any given situation, are who we should devote our lives too folks courtesy of Bucky the half-wit.
Despite the Watchtower’s inability to formulate one correct prophecy, lack of attending to the pedophile issues & outright lying & hypocrisy, we need to with all loss of rationale jump into this cult immediately.

Thus the obvious conclusion: You simply cannot adopt or rationally discuss issues such as these with naïve and uneducated clowns. Bucky Bozo, please either join the circus (sorry you are already there) or consider radical Islam as they want everyone to be back in the 7th century.

Bucky,

As Bob Dylan says: the world is a changing.

In the good old Abraham days, slavery was rife, and very acceptable. Adulterers were stoned to death, also acceptable, yet today one third of every man and woman should be stoned to death according to the old law, as this is the statistic of the fidelity of our modern world. These two laws have kind of been pushed into the background.
I personally have no time for anyone that looks at another’s hairy ass and decides that is for them, but hey, if I was created a homosexual I might think different. What gives you the right to condemn others when by the same law 30% of all you Christians should be stoned to death.
You so called holy people change the law to suit your every whim. You are so quick to quote the Bible to condemn others. It’s ok for you to hump your secretary but not for homo Harry to hump his mates ass even though in his mind he may find this attractive.
It’s called double standards. One should either live by the rules of the good book, or chuck it away and forget about it, you cannot and do not deserve to have it both ways.

Markus
