Disfellowshipping: The Watchtower Society Tightens Its Control

The leadership of the Jehovah’s Witnesses has the difficult task to find a balance between the wish to be seen as a ‘mainstream’ religion and their sectarian dogmas like Disfellowshipping and the refusal of blood transfusions.
In the last decade the Office of Public Information of Jehovah’s Witnesses has worked hard to give the Jehovah’s Witnesses a more friendlier and mainstream appearance. The recent media attention regarding the handling of sexual abuse among its members is seen by the leadership as an attack on God’s people. It seems that this causes a more isolationist policy towards the outside world. This might be the reason why the Watchtower Society is again taking a hard line on Disfellowshipped and Disassociated members. Read the rest »
