@607 What you really need to calculate is the length of the reign of the Babylonian kings in relation to 539 being the definite and indisputable date for the Medes and Persians conquering Babylon. This is one of the few absolute dates upon which we all agree., regardless of the 70 years captivity. And the Scriptures assure us that the land was never wholly desolate anyway. 2 Kings 24;14, 2 Kings 25;12 If you start at 587 BC and add on the length of each of the kingsâ€™ reigns, you get the picture, with no reference needed to any other source but the Bible. 539 + 17 years for Nabonidus = 556 BC 556 + 9 months for Labashi Marduk = 557 BC 557 + 4 years for Neriglissar = 561 BC 561 + 2 years for Evil Merodach = 563 BC 563 + 43 Years for Nebuchadnezzar = 606 BC Therefore Nebuchadnezzar began to reign in 606 BC and in his 19th year he besieged Jerusalem for the first time making that 586 BC. So you see it matters not whether the land was totally empty for 70 years or not, the reigns of the kings make the dates unmistakable, based on a date upon which everyone agrees, namely the date the Medes and Persians overthrew Jerusalem.

I was a young JW in 1966 when the seeds of 1975 were planted in the minds of people. I recall that in 1968 our kingdom hall had a wall calender showing all the months leading up to September 1975 when the New System would begin. Each month would be crossed off as we drew closer to Armageddon.

I was baptised during the fall of 1974 after an elder kept coming to my house with threats that I would die during 1975 if I were not baptised and an active publisher. I can recall how our congregation swelled during the months before Armageddon and how disillusioned many were when it didn’t happen.

I didn’t leave until the mid-1980’s as my family and everyone I grew up with were JW’s. Most of them still are. As the research paper states, the ties at the local level are very strong.

The failed prophecy was not a big deal to me. My grandparents and several close friends would have died. In a way, I was relieved. What I find sad is that we were told not to go to college or start careers. We were told to pioneer until the end came. Even better, work for free at Bethel . . . at least until you are 35 and have to leave.

Many of the JW’s I grew up with are now struggling financially, going to college, starting careers . . . in their fifties! I’m planning for retirement and they are trying to keep their head above water. I’m glad I got out when I did, but I am still sad that some very good people have spent decades with their lives on hold while bracing for Armageddon.

The 1914 generation will by no means pass away until the new system arrives? I don’t think so. I have a prediction of my own . . . the 1975 generation will pass away and the world will still be here.

i am not a jw but have studied with them in the past, it kinda makes me sick to think that all these lies are being put on some people and im just a 15 year old. kid most people see teenagers as people who dont really care about religion. these are kind people and they dont say non of the lies most people say about them. the human brain tends to look at the darkside of the picture when they should also look at the bright side. i have studied the catholic church, Mormons, Muslims, and jw as well as many other forms of christainity. i have also seen alot of false profits who use gods word for money, also the bible states that the path to salvation is narrow while the wrong path is wide, this does not mean we cant be saved if we study gods word. but out of all the religions i have been to i have to say theres something different about jws, i mean the fact that they are nonprofit, there religion is free and they preach the word of god is just amazing. Jesus said to preach the word of god and that’s what they do, Jesus never forced people to give him money, and these people run on donations not stupid basket handouts and they don’t do none of the crazy things that i have seen in other churches, and they don’t call themselves perfect so you better think with logic a little bit here because if your reading this and have never compleatly read the bible then why are you even judging these people? do yourself a favor go read the bible, open your eyes a little, and then come back and try to find a way to surprise me cause truth is, your just a plain old hater.

A very well researched article that avoids taking sides. Since there are a a variety of reasons why some leave, others are thrown out and many drift away, I would like the focus to be on the Organizations treatment of all the above. While proudly documenting total Hours, Mags, Bible Studies Etc little attention is paid to these former members by the Jehovahs Witnesses. In fact it seems as if we are just replaced with new recruits from relatives and friends since the door-to-door ministry is basically ineffective.
Demonizing all former members as lacking in faith or Apostates is the simple yet cruel answer that’s so dismissive of the tragedy of a lack of love and simple human kindest amongst the leadership. You give your life to a cause and find out that the leaders were simply using you to advance themselves and your trashed for complaining about there arrogant conduct. Control comes from the misuse of Love-always conditioned on obedience to the Society.

jehova es el creador de todo el mundo, dle ser humano y de todo lo que hay a tu alrrededor y no no nos dan nada de comicion por cada revista que entregamos como todos aseguran jehova es la verdad y sin duda es la verdad y seguire la senda sin mirar atras se que con migo marcha mi dios jehova no buscare mas pues esta es la verdad… la catolica no juzgo religiones respeto pero la catolica solo busca dinero asistia a misas y el padre se supone que debe ser soltero y el tenia familia y gran carro de lujo con la limosna que dejban y aqui con jehova dios no es nada de esooo nosotros mismos mantenemos los salones del reino con nuestra propia voluntad
